The fall back is starting almost as soon as you can start rowing the corn row. Not waiting until 10-12" plant height before starting. Have I been guilty of waiting? Most definitely.

Does it maybe interfere with other operations? Maybe unless you specifically plan the operation. And then you still might get caught.

But on the flip side, taking that time before planting can have a detrimental effect equally as well. 1,2, 3 days spent before planting, rain comes in before planting is done and can't return to the field for maybe 2 weeks. What was lost in potential had the corn been planted more timely?

Just blend the pros and cons into something "livable" rather than a do or die situation. Going to the extremes has never been a consistent profit maker.
