I have a 4630 and just learned last summer of the 10W30 requirement vs hydraulic oil. Can you shed any light on why?
Copied & pasted from Lil hoss in 2016
The reason the Turf-Gard is used over Hy-gard is because of the detergent level of engine oil vs hydraulic oil, when the 4700 was current we had a lot of problems with hydraulic valves and shift valves sticking, when I took them apart to free them up I was finding the valves corroded, the corrosion was caused by a chlorine solution used as coolant during the machining process, Hydraulic oil would not flush the chlorine solution out of the pores in the cast iron components and cause the corrosion, when Deere switched to Turf-Gard the problems went away.
I don't know what the difference was with Turf-Gard other than it is specified for air cooled engines but I had problems with sprayers that had another brand of motor oil put in the hydraulic/hydrostatic system, change back to JD Turf-Gard and the sticking valve problems went away. |
