Detergents in engine oil help flush plumbing valve blocks clean and keep them clean. Apparently some of the coolant used in machining is a chlorine based among other things and obviously that and any water could cause rust. Which leads to sticking valves.

At least that’s what I was told.

I run diesel engine oil in my 4730 hydro system. Cheapo 10W-30. Mainly because that’s all I could find on a Sunday afternoon when I blew a hydro line.
