I would sacrifice the less than half mpg difference all day for ease of operation on a farm.

I also took 3.90 gears out of a FLD with an 18 speed and a 550hp cat, and put 3.55s in. I think I gained 1/2 mpg

I have
1 truck with 2.84
3 trucks with 3.36
1 truck with 3.42
5 trucks with 3.55
1 truck with 3.90

It’s a toss up between the 3.42 and 3.55 which one I like more. But the trucks with other ratios will be changed upon a rearend failure

We have a 379 Pete with a 6NZ 750 hp, 13 speed and 3.55 rears on tall 22.5s. Good combo.

I drive a 389 Glider with a 2WS 550hp, 18 speed, and 3.42s on LP 22.5 rubber. Same rpms (1500) at 70 on both.

That seems to be about right for older Cats.
