New London, Wisconsin | Thanks everyone. What caused the concern was intermittent puffing of white smoke, with a very occasional miss.
It ran great but starting was a little less than stellar. Then a guy rented it who told me he would like to put in new injectors, and adjusted the valves. I actually did not want him to do that and told him so, but he did it anyway. That was when the problems started. He and I talked and he thought one of the new injectors was bad, but not his skills. I ran it this past year after being told the new injector that is causing that may need to "break in" but nothing changed. I took it in to the Deere dealer and they said the valves were not properly adjusted, and the injectors looked original. I'm not going to bother telling the guy who thought he genuinely helped, and I saw it apart in his shop. There is no point, and he couldn't afford to help anyway. None of my equipment is ever going back there. I'm out $6,000 for the undoing of his repairs and rent I never got. The reason he did the work inspite of my not wanting it, was to compensate me for using the tractor all summer, about 120 hrs because he had no money to pay me.
The Deere dealer found a bad injector, but suggested we replace them all, and we did. Then the dealer adjusted the valves and took it outside to test it. It still smokes, but is still intermittent, like it was. He now thinks the pump is on the way out. It has been very frustrating in a lot of ways.
I'm willing to put in the new pump you all have recommended. That should cure it. I will put this behind me and move on.
I used to know a great place to go for this kind of work but he retired, and I am frustrated. This tractor has about 4500 hrs.
