Subject: RE: Trees in the fence row

Floyd County, Iowa
There, finally a little more of the story!

I would probably talk to them and see what they have to say. If they don't want to clean it up or even help, depending on which side of the fence they were on in the first place. Here, I'd either clean it up myself and tote it off, or offer to "put it back" on their side of the fence, then do it.
From what you're saying, they might get the trees back.
I try to play ball with people, but if they throw the ball at me, I'm inclined to hit them with the bat.

FWIW, I've cleaned trees out of almost every fence line we have. Largest trunk would have been about 6". I've always talked to the other guys first, and never had one of them protest it. If the trees were on my side, I took care of them. If the trees were on their side, I asked (before I started cleaning) where they would like me to pile them. I don't pull them in fence lines though, I cut them and treat the stumps. Has always worked well here.
