You don't want to completely reveal the situation, so we can't give you the advice you want to hear, which is fine.
But the solution is still the same - call the other guy to explain, totally clean it up, return the fence line to previous condition or better, whether there's and actual fence or just a grass strip.
For some reason, you don't seem to want to do this.
