Kentucky | I have one now. Has Kinze units.
Black Machine was a company in Ohio at first then Agco purchased them. The first frames they made where 12r30/13r15 or 8r38/9r19. They added the 16r version-that was/is a big hunk of steel and stuff.
Agco still supports parts on the frame and all. I just get the row unit parts from John Deere and/or Kinze dealer.
I was at an auction in Hazel, KY on Saturday at a James R. Cash auction that had a former black machine. It was a White planter with White units-Agco version, painted red. It brought about $12,000. Good to great condition.
The planters are kinda wide for going down the road - close to 17' wide when folded.
I wish there was a way to have hyd. cylinders on the two wing or two back(when folded) wheel/tire assemblies. Don't need it when folded back, but when folded out in 12r30, sometimes the wings will dip down and drag or catch on uneven ground. Flat ground would be no issue.
Takes about 5 minutes or a little less to fold/unfold.
One time I could not get one of the wings to fold in, it was too low to hit the socket at the back. Got to looking and noticed the the front pivot pin of the wing had "lifted" up and had come out of the lower hole where it was suppose to be. What happened, the roll pin that held the pivot pin in position had broke and the pivot pin had "floated" up.
I had one of the lift hyd. cylinders to break apart at the lower weld that held the outer tube together. I guess the weld had weakened and eventually let go. Called my Agco dealer, didn't have one in stock, but had it in a day or so. Wasn't cheap-around $650. Had to purchase the whole hyd. cylinder assembly.
Hope this helps.
