Central Kansas
Post below got me thing, who has a dozer on there farm and what size? I always said that if I had to give up one piece of equipment here on my farm, it would NOT be my D6. Takes trees out(not fast though), fills ditches, rebuilds terraces. etc.

We have a Komatsu. Smaller size, not sure which one or how old it is. It's our 2nd dozer on the farm, before that we had a smaller JD. As long as I can remember we have always had a backhoe for digging up stumps and digging short tile runs. Went from a small Massey, to a small Ford, to a Cat 416B about 10 years ago.

I have a D6 9u, I think its a 1951. Put new cheap rails on it years ago, everything but the U/C is about shot. Very good size for small projects. But the 1955 14a D8 just puts a smile on your face when she start to bark.

Here is our old 1961 td 24. It was an old US army machine and still has less than 1500 original hours. The old engine was stuck from sitting a long time so the previous owner started swapping in the 8v71 which we completed. We have had it since 85, but sold it back in 1997. Regretted it and luckily were able to buy her back in 2006. Would never part with it again thats for sure! Can't beat 30 tones of brute force!!! lol

Do you have the truck transmission in the tractor?
I had to keep the 10 speed because the Cat engine ran at 1100 rpm. I run in 5th or 6th gear and it is about the same speed as the 6 cylinder.
I will get a picture of the unit sometime.
My undercarriage and associated parts are barely scrap iron. I have never had a track jump off, but it would be very possible. You get real good at hearing the sound when a roller jumps up on the rail.

Just behind the enigne is a double disk truck type clutch and then an output shaft running to the original dozer trans. If definately goes way faster than it should with the higher rpm, but we just stay away from the higher gears. The original 4 speed trans with the high / low steering clutches is geared down enough that there is no problem with finding a low enough ratio, even with the engine reved up.

No hyd. I take it. I am glad for your pict. as I have a 25C and am always keeping an ear tuned to engine swaps. Multiple hyd. pumps and torque converter drive make for more headaches. 817 isn't a go down to NAPA type of engine. :) Dirt

Hee Hee
The guy I got this motor from had a dump truck. His son ran into an overly zealous DOT man. Now the guy has a dump trailer to pull with tractor. Chop cab and engine off.
I have hydraulic pump that is driven off front of crankshaft.

Had a JD 450 track loader for years. Did about everything I needed done. Sold it to a friend to clean his farm a few years back after I noticed that I had only put 13 hours on it the entire year and figured I didn't need it anymore. Have an old Ford 555 backhoe that is handy on the farm. Just bought a Cat 963 a year ago but haven't found anything that needs done with it yet lol. It makes that 450 that I had look like a tinker toy lol!

he lives (or lived) just about 5 miles or so south of town, and sold me his D four years ago much like yours, except mine has sweeps, cat ripper and apparently way more hours! corp name was "c" farms. he had a c frame and rake for mesquite like you have, which he kept. Hope you have had some rain since then, because it was powder dry when I was there in march of 09.

is that John Deere construction yellow? you did a fine job on the paint.
