Subject: CaseIH vs Shoup, planter rebuild

So. IL
Needing to go through our 1240 caseih planter this winter and got some prices together. Need new openers, closing disks, chains, firming point, and meter disks for beans, and a couple other small things, shoup is $5300, and the meter disks would come from case, can not find aftermarket. Caseih dealer wants $9150 for the same list. Are the case parts that much better? We have had good luck with everything else from shoup. Thanks

We only get shoup parts for our planter. We run a Deere, shoup is always half the money and in ten years I never have been dissatisfied with their quality.
Save you money...

I've got original equipment parts from Shoup in the past.  I always use them if I can.  Never have had a problem with anything from them and you can't beat the customer service.

I split a planter years ago, Deere seed and fertilizer disks on half, and Shoup on the other half.

The only difference was I paid more for the Deere half.

I'd go Shoup.

I have always bought from shoup. lately combine wise I have been buying from abeline machine because they are slightly cheaper.

years ago when we had a white planter I had 2 opener discs that I kept on hand for spares, they were oem discs, I used them in the rebuild and bought 15 rows of shoups. agco salesman stopped up and said take the shoup one and hold it in one hand and put ours in the other. their was a obvious difference in weight. I never weighed them but it was clear I was getting a lot more iron from the oem. I still buy shoup for everything I can. that weight difference was sort of alarming but and the shoup one may wear a little faster but the price difference was also alarming and when i thought about it when i put on new shoups i am also putting on new bearings so what if i get a few more acres out of the oems it just didn't seem worth it buying from the dealer.

I tried aftermarket disks for my 1200 planter from Abeline Machine and all the bearings wiggled inside the bearing retainer. They replaced them all and 1/2 way through the season half of them were loose again and when we ran them in rocky conditions the edge bent over and stopped rotation. I went back to OEM Earth Metal CaseIH blades. Needless to say my scrap iron trailer has a lot of good bearings in it. Can't say about Shoup blades, but this experience soured me on aftermarket blades.

Rebuilt mine a couple years ago about 90% of the parts I bought from Shoup cause of the price. I'm happy with their products and HIGHLY recommend the carbide furrow point and shoes. They are kind of pricey but wear really well and I'd say they'll last 3-4 times longer than factory ones.

Ingersoll discs is what you want. If you can find a local dealer or a distributor close by. http://www.ingersolltillage.com/

The Ingersoll discs are what CaseIH uses on their equipment. Only difference is that the CaseIH ones have "Earth Metal" and a CNH logo stamped in them. I bought some through Agris2000 here locally.

Like I said above---I've bought opener blades for an IH planter that were stamped Case IH----pretty sure those were the same as OEM.

I live in eastern Indiana about 15 miles from Ohio and I've ordered as late as 4:30 in the afternoon and received the order the next day.  I don't know how they do it but they're fast at shipping.

Steve, I was told that Shoup and UPS are in the same building.

The only time I've ever broken a firming point was the points I bought at my Case dealer. The points came in a kit with the shoes. The shoes were USA, the points were Chinese. If I'm going to get Chinese junk, I'll pay less and get it elsewhere. I'm not saying Shoup are Chinese, but I'll give them a try.
