Central Missouri | I am thinking of trading off my JD 6400 for a used Kubota M9540 with 500 hrs. Reason is the JD has about 6000 hrs on it and looking to upgrade. The Kubota also has a front end loader that I am looking for as well. I use the JD to bale hay with a JD 567 baler and sometimes to mow pastures with a JD CX20. Otherwise it is used to haul hay out to the cows... hence the need for the front loader.
My question: Can the Kubota handle the equipment and can it do the job for me like the JD 6400? Will I notice a drop in power between the two tractors? Any problems with Kubota tractors, ie. mechanical, handling, repairability? |

That 6400 Deere seems to be a bit heavier than the Kubota.....

E Central Ar | The Kubota will weigh less and will ride ALOT rougher than the 6400 and doesn't have the cab room the JD has
as for Hp difference I am not sure how much you will notice but I bet you will notice some
and all this from a guy who is NOT a deere fan |

SW Ontario | I have an 8540 Kubota and really like it. Tried out green, blue, and red ones before we bought it. It does not have all the bells and whistes the others offer, but it was the nicest loader tractor to operate. We bale with it occasionally and can run our NH BR740 about 7 MPH without any problem. It is about 2 years old with 1000 hrs on it and all we have did is change oil and filters. |

Southeast Florida | Well, they are virtually indestructible, (trust me my crew has tried) and they are made for 5'4" Japanese guys. (Mexicans love them) Creature comforts not so much, very easy on fuel. Make sure it has the shuttle shift (wet clutch) |

Northern CA | If you can afford it, step up to a M105, M125, etc. The cabs are much bigger, comforts better, and still bullet proof. I have one and love it. I have friends with many 10,000 plus hours on their Kubota tractors doing orchard work with absolutely no major issues. |

| The Kubota will be a LOT lighter than the 6400. Power will probably be a bit less as well. They're rated roughly the same but IIRC, the Deere's of that vintage tend to overperform a bit more than spec... The Kubota will not.
I don't consider the two to be in the same class whatsoever... but the Kubota will more than likely be sufficient. Not a bad tractor at all. parts will be atrocious if you do need them tho... and that day will come.
Neighbour had to put a rad/fan/water pump in an older 8950 this spring. IIRC, the prices from the dealer came in just under 4 grand. Needless to say he found aftermarket... but I think it was something like 3200 for the rad alone.

Central Missouri | Thats the first thing I noticed when I opened the door to the cab. I am big buy and I am probably spoiled with the bigger cab of the JD... need it to put all the grease spray cans and extra twine ... plus the extra leg room is nice too. |
