Subject: concord 3010 air drill questions

Hi, Am interested in what i think is a concord 3010. This one has maybe 11" wide sweeps . It has what appears to be a seed deflector on back side of sweep. I see in the parts book, that it can have a narrow deflector. or a wide deflector. So i assume it will split the row, so instead of 10" row spacing. would be something like 3" an 7" ????

My biggest concern, is it able to plant over terraces, an maintain any control over depth. Or will i have seed 6" deep, an other seed on top of the ground due to the unevenness of terraces? I have used a jd lz drill, and a 150 ihc hoe drill. they seem to work alright going over terraces. But have a hard time seeing how one like this will. Thanks

I’m not 100% sure what terraces are... but I know that my concords have always been a bit of a hassle as far as depth control.

LZ and IH 150s, you sound like your from the inland NW. I'm a couple years in with my concord, it's set up differently but same concept. I've struggled with depth control but am getting closer to where I want it. I seed along the terraces, it would have to be a pretty wore out terrace to be able to go up and over and get the seed where you want it. I also notice going through some draws/dips the openers pretty well come out of the ground. Noticed that others will seed right down the draw to so solve the problem, We have a lot of varying terrain but it can and will do a good job if you get the depth set plenty shallow and level the drill out well. The deflectors I think you are referring to are disc levelers, intended to keep the soil from being thrown over other rows from the back rank of openers.

From Oklahoma. Hoe drills aren't popular here. But i do like the old style hoe drills, just won't handle trash very well.

deflectors I'm referring to are #3 in diagram. Sorry don't have a pic of what it looks like on the back side of the sweep. This is what i'm assuming would split the seed row.

No you will not have the depth control you desire. Where the wheel is is where you'll get the greatest control but going over small"bumps" as the front tire goes over and down the shank will plow straight through.

Ok, thanks, So most likely would need to plant with the terraces to get a decent stand. Really slows things down, around here, doing it that way.

You need to look for a newer shank type/hoe air seeder that has packer wheels and some depth control on each opener to decent depth control when going over uneven terrain.
Check out a Seed Hawk or one of the newer CIH, JD or Bourgault seeders
