Subject: New Holland 8870 detent problems

wc Ohio
I have remote number 3 on my planter lift. The detent is working just fine but sometimes when it snaps back to neutral the pump will still be stroked until I move the lever slightly back and forth. It's like it is sticking slightly. I took the dent cap off and things look good under there as far as the springs. There was some oil came out when I took the cap off which alarmed me but I think it may have came from the small holes going to the detent adjustment screw. This stack was just completely gone through by a local dealer and all orings replaced.

Also does anyone know how many detent balls should be in each remote? Thanks.

There should be no oil in the detent housing. This indicates a leak inside, and will definitely restrict spool movement if you get too much oil in there. Did the problem go away after you drained the housing and put it back on?

Try it. If the problem goes away, you've found the issue. You need new seals on the detent release piston.

Thanks Bern. I feel like these hydraulics are going to be a constant pain but I hope I'm wrong.

My experience is when an issue starts back there on the hydraulic stack, completely rebuild all of it, detents, female couples, o rings, etc. My problems went away once I did it all.
