Have a 250 magnum. Book says change the filter at 1200 hours. Had a mechanic thought they changed them at 600 hours. What have you guys done on this? Anyone change it before 1200 hours? Book also says change engine oil at 600 hours...we change it about every 150-200 hours or twice a year.

Change that filter, otherwise bad things can happen.

We changed ours on our STX 435 and it is kinda tricky to get to all of the bolts.

I'd change it every 600 hrs myself. I've seen one with right around 900 hrs fail and send filter material down into the crankcase causing some issues. Do NOT drop the bolts when changing that filter, you will be sorry.

Are there any videos showing this procedure? Planned on doing a Magnum 235 and a T9-390 next week . So where do the bolts go if you drop them ? Fall into the front cover or just lost in the frams rails? Probably should not be done by a senior citizen that can;t hardly grip a fork ?

I'm not aware of any videos Steve. This picture is a 12.9 Iveco from a 550 Steiger and the filter bolts to the gear at 3:00, Magnums are a little different but same location and bolts go to the same place if you drop them, right into the geartrain. I stuff rags as best as I can just in case. I suggest a magnetic socket and/or steady hands.

any advice for finding a beather bolt once dropped inside the gear case? 4430 sprayer dropped the third bolt inside, i have pulled the oil pan, flushed diesel down from the top of the gear case and tried blowing it out with the air hose. i can turn the engine over with a wrench its not stuck in a gear

Curious if the statement "not stuck in a gear" should be followed with YET ? Hope you are able to fish it out.

It’s a real pita to change. But we do them annually. It’s cheaper and easier to change filter vs a rear crank seal. Don’t ask me how I know.

Were changing them around 600 hours. Had One blow the oil fill cap at around 900 hours because of too much pressure.

I also change with every oil change. How about just taking all of the filter material out and putting the frame of the filter back in or even take the filter out and leave it out and call it good?
