I’m concidering useing RK products gauge wheel kits on my white 6222 planter. Do I need to replace my arms too? Do they work with the dual closing wheels? RK website only refers to single wheels.

And is this worth doing ? Any experience with the white planter is greatly appreciated.

I did 17 rows with their kits on my 6100 white planter with dual closing wheels. 2 years/2000 acres ago. You will use the instructions the same as the older deere and kinze planters use. Just specify what you have when you call in. They work very well, and completely eliminate any wiggle at all in that pivot. After the first season, they didn't need any re adjustment.

Be sure to grind any uneven wear marks from your old arms where the washer was worn in. Because the new washers are larger OD. It will take some time to get the first row figured out and adjusted. Follow directions carefully, and they go pretty smoothly.

I would recommend also RK's bearing closing wheel kits. Ran them one year so far, and are amazingly tight and smooth. Currently I'm putting on RK's seed tube gaurds to get some extended wear from that part. Very satisfied with all their products so far!

I just redid my 6700 this past week. Really satisfied with what RK products offers. Did both the guage wheel arms and closing wheel pivots. Did totally tubular, new disc openers and scrapers while we in there. Feels like a new planter again!

Glad to see this post, I didn't know that they made them for the gauge wheels. Thought they only had them for the closing wheels. My 6122 has quite a bit of slop in the gauge wheel arms and they're very expensive to replace with new ones. Does Shoup sell them?

There are 2 small bushings in each arm that you can buy from shoup, along with the pivot shaft. I tried that before I did the RK kit, but they were loose again after one season.
Agco is the only place I know of for the whole arm assembly. $150 for each one I was quoted!

Okay let me get this straight... you still use your existing arms (no matter the wear?) and everything and only replace the pivot shaft and hardware ?

No need to replace arm or pivot pin. Doesn’t matter how worn the arm or pivot pin is, the RK Products kit will bring it back to new specs. Kit is made so arm is brought back into place by ends of worn arm, not the bore. That is why you need to make sure the ends of worn arm and area next to row unit are smooth. Once kit is shimmed and bevel washer and tab washer are in place, it takes 3900 lbs of pressure to get bevel washer to deflect, this keeps gauge wheel in place next to disc opener lightly touching it.

I did this to take the slop out of the other end of the arm. Drilled out and put bushing in and drilled all the way Though and use 1/4" bolt to make changing out bearing easier . I used all new bearing from the 5100 so I could use bolts instead of them set screws that break off so easy.
