Subject: Hook points on an equinox

We have a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. I got it stuck in the snow this morning. Is there an place to hook a chain to pull it out without wrecking something. If I can manage it our next car will be different.

The new cars are just light sheet metal.  You can look in the

manual for pull points.  I have been there, not fun.

West Central IL

Don't know if I would recommend it, but on TV I've seen wreckers hook a tow strap around the wheel spokes.

That's what I did to tug the neighbor out of the snowplow ridge. Couldn't see anywhere else to hook. Worked good.

car frames have "hook points(slots) for which car carriers have special chains/adaptors as hold-downs. I have managed to collect several from along highways...no you cannot have them.
typically short chains with 5/16" hook one end & special lug at the other: hard to describe without a pitcher

Those sites are good to hold the car down on a car carrier, but to pull forward I think it might wreck the bumper.

Make sure the towing vehicle is big enough to gently and smoothly pull it out with no jerking around and you can get away with a lot. I've hooked the a arm several times without issue. Probably a different story if you're dragging it up out of a steep ditch.

North Dakota
Not sure about Iowa but here in North Dakota there is a cable in with the spare tire. The one in our 14 Equinox is about 3 feet long and the instructions in the owners manual show where to hook them under the frame. The cable is only about a 1/4 “. Not sure how much it could pull.

Manitoba, Canada
It’s probably only 1/4” so it breaks first and they are not liable for damage to the car.

Does it have a receiver hitch? That would work for pulling backward anyway.

Grandview Mo.
Our Northern Tool store has a good selection of towing accessories to include "Cluster hooks" that have various hooks that will fit in the slots on the underside of cars.

Reno Co KS
Made the dealer put front tow hooks on our 15 suburban for this same reason. They sure didn't want to. Told the dealer is wasn't an option.
