Thinking about purchasing a tire machine for shop, any experiences
Good or bad with these companies? Atlas from Greg smith equipment,
Weaver from Derek Weaver Company
Also any features that are a must as they each have quite a few models?

Kevin can you tell me what model your waiver machine is? When I called them they said they would not do 10 ply pick up tires and we have a lot of those on the farm. Have you use your machine on 10 ply tires?

I think either would be fine. I know of at least one tire shop that last I knew was using a weaver. That place has some of the best prices on tires around so that machine has to get used a lot.

Do your self a favor and get a Coats. If you don't use it much go to town... Dennis

I have had an Atlas at work for 4-5 years now. It has stood up well to teenagers and the abuse they apply while learning. I would buy another.

Mine is a Ranger, 3-4 years old now. I'm satisfied. My old changer did not have enough clearance to handle 12" skid steer tires, this one does.

Brewster --- I spent 22 years as a tire shop owner. Buy a Coats or FMC if you want them to last. Do not buy a cheap Ranger, you will find them about 1/3 smaller than a normal machine. Any warentee work will NOT be done. We found FMC were a longer lasting machine than any of the others.

What do you mean “you will find them about 1/3 smaller than a normal machine”?

Just what I said. After my back forced me to sell the tire shop I went to work for a car dealer- who put up a new shop. He bought a new ranger rim clamp machine and balancer. The machine is too small to do anything but car tires. I try'd to mount a new 12x16.5 skid loader tire on it and it was not possible. The machine is physically smaller than any of the rim clamp machines I ever bought. It also leaked air from several places from day 1. We could not get anyone to do warentee work on it. Its still leaking 4 years later. The ranger spin balancer was even worse. Small machine, shipped to us broken. They were told about it immiediatly, they sent out a repair man, but it took him a year to get there. By that time the warentee had expired even though we had reported it when we received it. Boss passed away last year - new owner decided to spend $1000.00 on a new computer board for it. Now it will static balance tires, at least it is better than a bubble balancer.

Ok. I know of one in this area and he has never complained about it so I was curious what you meant. I’m not sure what model he got but I know they make several different sizes. I think the mid-range models and up can do fairly large tires according to the spec sheet.

We have had an Atlas from Greg Smith for 12 years in a our shop and getting along fine with it and balancer. More than good enough for any farm shop .
