Just thought I’d show what paint job my cousin did to a truck at his car dealership. I think is pretty neat!

I saw it on FB too. I'm not a Chevy guy, but that's sharp. Brings back memories of high school and riding around with friends. My wife wondered why everyone was making such a big deal over an old truck, and I told her it was because it was a brand new one. She didn't catch the difference until I pointed it out. BIL, Chevy guy, thought it looked good too.

Me too. The OBS Fords of the mid 90s had a plethora of awesome options. My favorite was the white truck with the metallic turquoise stripe down the side. Paint options today are boring!

I like it, reminds me of all the trucks that used to have the two-toned paint job back when I was starting to pay attention to vehicles. I know in the Ford pickup brochures at the dealer, there were several different paint schemes you could order. Maybe he'll start a new trend.

Very nice. Always did like a two tone truck. Id personally leave the decals off it and just do the paint. Last good 2 tone truck from the factory was the Ford heritage edition in 2003. The black and maroon made me want to trade trucks back then.

I bet he can do the lettering better than GM did and get the paint to stay on, too. It seemed like everyone around here washed off the lettering.

I hope he starts a trend. When I was young we would drive through lots looking at all of the variations of pickups. Now there only seems to be about 4 or 5 colors to pick from.

Tell your cousin that's the best looking paint job I've seen on a Chevy truck in 30 years. I've forgotten how nice they could look. All you see now is a sea of pewter Chevy vehicles. Seems like they've forgotten how to make something be eye catching. He did a great job on that.

Pass. Nice workmanship on your cousin's part but the body lines of a 78 Chevy lent themselves much better to that paint job than a new one. The lengths that some people will to so they can live in the past never cease to amaze me.

Well yes to some extent but that isn't really apples to apples is it? Of course you know that Clay but it didn't stop you from digging. If this were a restored 77 or 78 truck and I had made the remark I did your comparison would have merit. That isn't the case. I was not knocking the OP or his cousin. I think he did a beautiful job I just don't think that truck with those body lines really lends itself all that well to that old paint scheme. My comments were more directed at the guys oohing and ahhing about something from 40 years ago that gosh darn it they should still be making. I don't live in the past. The only thing good about the good old days is that they are gone.

Actually it fits the lines of the truck perfectly.
The great thing is how much better the 2014 functions vs the 77 model.

You're blind if you think that paint job fits the lines of the truck perfectly. Granted he did the best with what he had to work with. That is precisely why the two tone paint jobs have gone away. Curvier more sculpted bodies are much harder and expensive to two tone.

Steve, I just think it's cool (like many others) because I liked the looks of certain of those pickups back then.  And because it's unique, or at least it was before 69,000 people saw this and want to have their own.

However, I have no desire to do my daily driving in a 1970-80 vintage pickup truck from Detroit.  I enjoy modern pickups that have more power, better mileage, better comfort, better safety, better brakes, better suspensions, and powertrains that will go 200k+ miles with only minimal upkeep.  This is a case where the good ol' days weren't really all that good.

Granddad had an orange and cream colored one with a cream roof, or maybe just the roof was cream and the rest orange with chrome striped body trim. It went to the scrapper some years ago. It'd be cool to have something like that again.

Very neat. I like it. Really sets the truck off. I no Ford has some two tone combinations on there newer trucks. Harley Davidson ones. Im liking the old sonic blue with a light gray bottom strip on the door. Very nice an sharp. Two tone used to be the norm but not so much any more. Those old seventies an eighties Fords an Chevys had some sharp looking trucks with two tone paint jobs. maybe those day will be coming back. Thanks for posting.

He has had so much interest in that truck that he has decided to do more of them. It sounds like he can customize a truck you bring him or he would sell you a truck to do it to if you’re interested. It can be a used truck. This one is actually a 2014 with 80,000 miles on it. He has gotten nonstop calls from all over the country when people saw it. I would love a Blue and white one myself!

Thats awesome !!  I'm sure he will stay plenty busy for awhile.   Now if someone wanted to top that they could add the big original white mirrors and the big cab lights on top and to top it off knock a hole through the drivers door frame and mount one of those old school adjustable spotlights.    That would sort out the real men, drilling those kind of holes in a new 60K pickup.  haha,   Thanks for sharing !!

It is part of streamlining society. Blending us all together so few stand out, turning into mind numb robots t do the governments buidding.

Look at the vehicles paint today. Red, white, black, blue, silver, green maybe. Monotone blend all together.

This story is showing up everywhere. I just saw it on MSN. Did your cousin happen to say what they are charging for this trip down memory lane? Even though it is not my cup of tea I can see demand for this sort of thing skyrocketing. I'll be surprised if GM doesn't step in and start offering something like this from the factory with a big old price tag on it. On a separate note, does anyone know if Ford still offers two tone paint as an option on trucks? I know they offered it long after GM did.

I believe the lower half is the only way though, not like the different color down the middle.

Sounds like this one was done with a vinyl wrap but they will also do them with actual paint.

Also sounds like there was a leveling kit, wheels and tires, badging and wrap in the pricing.

Some prices were listed if you read though all the stuff posted at the link I gave. I think more will follow once they have a better idea of demand and what they are going to offer.

I won't post any $ here as I don't know what is accurate or correct.

The numbers I saw looked fairly high if this is just a wrap even with extra stuff included.

Keep checking the link I posted as I think new pricing and info will be listed there directly from them without it getting muddied up by me or others commenting and speculating on prices.

Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS

Dad had a 74 Chevy 2WD, LWB that was green with a white stripe down the middle. His did not say "BIG TEN" on the bed. His was a "Heavy Half." IIRC it had something like 8 or 10 leaf springs under the back. He bought it used in the fall of 77. It had previously belonged to a carpenter who had a "camper top" bed cover on it with carpet on the floor of the bed. He had only used it to haul his tools. It hauled a lot more weight than that after dad got it.
