Subject: Case IH 350 Steiger engine fault code

Southwest Iowa
The last few days of planting, our 350 would derate and throw an engine fault code, which was 3297. At times, I could shut it down, restart and it would run fine for a few hours. Other times, it would throw the code a few minutes after restarting it. The dealer is aware of the situation and it is going into the shop sometime this week, but I'm just curious if this code is familiar to anybody on here and if so, what was the cure to get it up and running correctly again?

Thanks for any replies!

Unfortunately, yes. It was at the dealers for a few days and they checked a few things and had it on the dyno, but of course it didn't act up while they had it. We got it back, put it on the field cultivater for an afternoon and it threw the code 3 times. So it's going back for another check up and hopefully they can figure out what's going on.

I would recommend if you had some field work to do yet, is to have the tech bring out his service tool, and hook it up.

after the spring troubles we had, thinking about finding a low houred 9380, and getting rid of some ulcers.

I sympathize with your situation. A couple of weeks ago I got the engine fault message along with the red STOP sign on the A post. Went through diagnostics and it told me it was fault 3141 (?). Of course there is no info about what that number means. Happened to catch the C-IH tech out on a job and he called me back and said that the code was "check water separator near right front of fuel tank." I drained out about half a coffee cups worth of glop and that cured the problem. My point is why can't the owners manual have a list of translations for the enigmas that are a relatively simple fix. I was damn disgusted and ready to blame Putin for my problem.

Would have been 3146, can't figure out why that fault doesn't rate high enough to get a spelled out warning on the A-post.

I think in our 500 it does...

How about a a-post warning that doesn't rate high enough to get a fault code number???

Unfortunately, johnny that happens quite often on a TierIVa Steiger and it can be frustrating to figure out. It can mean low boost pressure, fuel pressure problems, high intake air temperature and other things as well.

As far as fuel filters, that's another confusion on FPT engines in Steigers. The fuel filter on the engine does have a sensor to tell you it's plugged. Unfortunately, 9 times out of 10 the operator will tell you it still has good power.
The confusion is the primary fuel filter just has a WIF sensor( water in fuel) and has no way to tell you it's plugged except that the engine has no power.

Sometimes I'd like to load up about a dozen of you guys in the trenches and make a flight over to see the fiat guys, and air some greviences.

I could go on a rant about some things, but I fear my local guys would just suffer for it, that'd be the last thing I'd want.

Definitely looking at other options right now.

3297 is fuel pressure related and could be anything from a plugged filter to failures in high pressure components. Another possibility, could be a chafed wire in the engine harness.
