Tell me what you know about it. Is it a good transmission?

You can train some one in a short order! Very user friendly, yet has enough of easy to set variations that just make it fun to drive. Tractor automatically goes into park if you sit idle for an extended period of time.Split throttle, just to name a few.

beings your all on that subject, we have a 370 and in our hills with a 24 row 20 in case planter, we loose alot of speed on the hills, seems like more then what we did with a smaller 290 with powershift and chip. is that normal?

Thought the same thing going from a 340 powershift to a 380 cvt. Set your throttle at a higher minimum and it will make a big difference. I use to just set the cruise at 1800 and go. Now I throttle up to 1800 and it pulls much better.

+1.  Have two currently and they have been great.  First requirement of any new add is CVT followed by front suspended axle and large hydraulic pump.

I thought with a cvt you could set your speed and the tractor would do the rest at the most economically. Why won't it keep speed.??

U r sort of correct but easily fooled by marketing. Cvt #1 goal is to replace dumb operators with even more dumb operators. Farming operations want cheap labor just like every other business. Cvt in a 4wd is a 25k up charge vs powershift. Complete waste if u have a properly trained driver. The dang powershift is bush button! How much easier can it get to just downshift shen needed vs having the cvt doing it for u?
Yes in a sub 300hp tractor cvt r great. Varing speed for spraying or baling is worth the cvt. In 4wd i prefer powershift.
Cvt in 4wd is not more fuel efficient! Its more time efficient! It accelerates 1.5x faster. It only has 3 gears and hydraulics do the rest. So 3 shifts to get the 25mph vs 12 for powershift. Therefore, if u r on a production operation and need to haul 70 loads of manure in a day vs 62 than cvt is the ****(pun intentended). If u r just tilling a 500 acre field cvt is the worst option ever! Remember those hydraulics i mentioned? Those take power to spin! About 20hp at 1900rpm. If u need peak power its at 1900 rpm on the engine. So pulling a tillage tool at 1900rpm with cvt means u r putting 20 LESS hp to the ground. So a 540 powershift will always out pull a cvt when running at full load.
What about part loads? Yes cvt will drop the rpm to pull a 40ft implement at 1600rpm vs a 60ft that needs max power at 1900rpm. However a good operator can do the same thing in a powershift! They just dont because of stupidity or lack of training! I hear all the time "my daddy told me to run at full throttle 2100 rpm" ya well your daddy didn't drive a modern diesel eng with a push button powershift!
If u run scraper pans and r constantly shifting up to high speeds and then downshifting to fill the pans a cvt is great. Much smoother and with faster acceleration hauls more loads in a day.
If your 4wd spends 75% of its life on a grain cart the cvt is great.
If your 4wd spends 50% or more doing heavy tillage cvt is a bad idea. Pulls less and doesnt save any fuel!

I like all the features but my favorite is being able to use the foot feed to control speed while maintaining a set RPM. Perfect for pulling a bale scoop. Also like that you can't over-work the tractor on heavy tillage or PTO work. Tractor automatically slows down to maintain 100% power. Operators can't hot-rod the tractors. Perfect for pulling a baler, get an exact stroke count every bale by adjusting the thumb wheel a click or two. Nice for spraying with speed and pressure. Adjust RPM or flow controls and maintain any speed.

Wouldn't buy another tractor without CVT.

I have no experience with a case-ih cvt, but I do with New Hollands, pretty sure they're the same.
Would be ok for a baler, maybe even a grain cart, but when it came to anything that pulled hard it was just a joke. Tractor couldnt maintain any kind of speed when it got to pulling hard and would all but stop moving in really tough spots. Mayb they aren't all like that? But id be real leary of trying another one again.

Seems like reliability isn't much of an issue, but I can't say I care for it. Maybe I wasn't using it right, but I found it to be sort of jerky. The IVT on the John Deere I got within a half hour on the grain cart and I struggled with the CVT in a Puma 160 on a hay rake. It was nice to have the control in the windrow but any higher speeds and I found myself jerking back and forth trying to slow down. A continuously variable transmission has its place, but I prefer my powershifts.

Tried out the 380 CVT Row Track this past fall on the forage harvestor and disc chisel. 30" tracks and 620 radials. Excellent pulling ability compared to a dualed mfwa. We were in some very wet and sloppy conditions pulling the chopper and did not get stuck where a normal mfwa would have.

Finished up spring tillage and tiling with it now. About half the 3500 hours it has been on a tile plow. Not one issue or complaint with the transmission in those hours. The different Modes are a nice feature letting you adjust to what your pulling and field conditions. Wish Case would put these CVT's in big 4wd's also.
