Lisbon, Ohio | Hi there, I thought I would share with everyone the rebuild we had done on a 1986 Steiger Tiger IV KP-525 that we bought in November last year. The project lasted from January 6th and was finished April 24th. A farmer and his brother down the road did the rebuild for us, we could not be happier! We had the engine sent out and completely rebuilt, we also had the transmission/transfer case sent out and rebuilt, the axles were done in house at their shop. Every hydraulic hose, every coolant line were replaced. The transfer case cables, the hydraulic cables, the throttle cable and shifting control harness were replaced. The entire cab was gutted and replaced with a new cab kit, new radio and speakers, new air suspension seat, new glass. The entire tractor was repainted with 2k Urethane Steiger Green, Semi Gloss Black and Gloss Black. There were new decals made and they were put on. The lights were upgraded to all LED lighting, with hazards in the front and back, wide tire lights and 2 rotating beacons on the cab. We also mounted it with new rubber all the way around, 900/50 R42 Michelin Mach X Bib R1W. There was also a new AC system put in, now the cold setting in the cab is colder than ice cold.
When we got this machine, it was in poor shape, it was used and neglected...as an example the primary air filter was from 2006, the secondary was from 2002, the cabin air filter was original from 1986. When I first pulled that air filter out to examine it...I set it down on the ground and it instantly created a dust cloud, if you lightly tapped it hoards of dust would come flying out of it. For the cabin filter it was pretty much the same except the dust had fallen onto the pan below it and I had to use a scraper to get it off. The filters were labeled recently, however because of the condition of the filters...the rust that had formed on them and how difficult they were to get off I would assume someone just labeled them to make you feel better about the condition it was treated. All the oils were filthy, the transmission oil was black, the axle oils were black, the hydraulic oil was dark brown and the engine oil was sludgy. The brakes did not work because the master cylinder was leaking, also the brake pads were ground down to the bare metal, the parking brake pads were ground down to bare metal, 2 axles seals were leaking majorly, I had a stream flowing through the shop. It was just wore out and time for it to be placed into the hands of an owner who would love her.
Here is the video I posted of the first start of the engine after the rebuild. https://youtu.be/rEBjplLuj20
Here is the video I also posted after it arrived back to my farm completely reassembled. https://youtu.be/fg1Yn_NZ1s0
