SC IA | After doing lots of shopping for a self feeder, finally decided I'd rather just build one and be done with it. Did lots of looking on the interwebs for inspiration. Sadly it is hard to find pictures of these feeders that include the slides and insides. So, I also went and looked at a buddy's feeder that has retired to a deep ditch. Finished product is a combination of that feeder, and the ones Burdick posts pictures of in his monoslope. No Smidleys around to pattern unfortunately.
This one is 12 feet long, nearly 8 feet tall. Feeds off of 1 side only, as it will live in a fenceline.Total cost of materials is almost $500. Feeder holds close to 3 ton. I left the 2x6 uprights in place in case I decide to put a lid on it or want more capacity. For now, its inside and holds a full batch out of my mixer.
I'm a little disappointed in how well it "drags" with the skidloader. It is very heavy, and was built on skids, but doesn't like being jostled. Luckily it will be stationary - if it ever needs moved or loaded on a trailer, I will reinforce the undercarriage.
Last pic - there was a traffic jam at the grand opening. Hopefully I'm not doing the wrong thing by going to self-feed. I know its common but not throwing buckets over the fence makes me feel a little dirty.
