Subject: Looking for decent paint

South Texas
I'm looking for some decent paint for a flatbed for my old dodge, will be gloss black. All I've found local is Rustoleum "Specialty Farm Equipment", Rustoleum "Professional High Performance Protective Enamel", Coronado "Rust Scat Polyurethane Enamel", and Valspar "Anti-Rust Armor Oil-Based Enamel". All about $40/gal.

My local dealer doesn't have any, but I'm sure I could order some John Deere paint. Is it any better than the above? Rough price for it?

Also could order acrylic enamel paint kit from Summit Racing or some on ebay for about $100. Includes gallon of paint, quart reducer, pint hardener.

Any of these options any good? I'm tired of doing all the work to paint things decent, then it fades 1-5 years later.

I've been using the Valspar for metal buildings and random implements and such lately and happy with the coverage, like there's actually some paint in that paint vs others that seem to be mostly thinner. Not sure how it will hold up and I haven't sprayed any of it yet.

Usually your gonna need a paint made to withstand UV or put a UV resistant clear coat. A lot of the automotive paint will fade if not protected. That's why cars missing clear coat start to turn color quickly in those spots

In my opinion, a urethane enamel is your best anti-fade option with out going to a clear coat system.

An acrylic enamel with hardener is also a good choice.

I think most of the stuff you buy from an implement dealer (JD CaseIH, etc) is acrylic enamel, and if you add a splash of hardener to it you can get pretty good results.
