Subject: how to preserve wood floor on equipment trailer?

I recently bought a new 20 ton Trail King equipment trailer. It has the heavy wood planking on the floor. Just wondered if there was something to treat the floor with to preserve it as I don't have room to store it inside.

TIA

We save used hydraulic oil because it is clean and use it for things like that. Linseed oil is good but costs.

We treat our straw wagon decks with used hydraulic oil at the end of each season and it looks brand new.

We have used linseed oil to treat wood traile decks / grsin truck beds. Word of caution, a couple years ago the hired man treated our g.n. trsiler deck with linseed oil. When he got done he threw the wadded up rags in the trash barrel in the shop. Next morning I walked in & smelled smoked. Looked over where the trash barrrl had been to see a pile of burned rubbish. Trash barrrl was on one side of the tool box, on the other side was the actylene torch. Tool box was black up the back & the wheels on the side where the trash barrel had were burnt off.

As a woodworker and trailer owner sitting outside also. I used to oil the boards thinking I was doing a good thing. I now think it didnt help at all. And maybe hurt it some. In woodworking the thought is to treat all sides of the board equally to keep moisture out. If you only treat one side, it can warp or trap moisture. So when I oiled my trailer deck it seemed to rot faster from underneath ?? Possibly not able to dry out as thoroughly in the sun ?? Plus if you oil a beavertail, becareful, it gets really slippery when wet. So now all I do is try and keep it clean and let the boards breath.
Good luck.

I've used boiled linseed oil on my 50ft Transcraft. Thats the trailer we use to haul 10-34-0 and 28% and it really does help keep that stuff from absorbing into the wood. The reason we use boiled linseed oil is because its treated with a metallic dryer to help dry/absorb faster.
