Subject: Grain bin roof lid replacement

WC/Indiana
I have a grain bin lid that needs replaced. I posted about it a few months ago. I bought a Rockyford bin lid/collar replacement. My current collar is fiberglass. I need to take it off and replace it with a metal one. Anyone know how to support the roof so it doesn't collapse when I take it off? Or will the roof stay up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

IMO they stay up pretty well. We changed like 6 when I was young. I helped the hired man at the time. Bin was plump full and he stood in the grain and we kinda had to lift the roof panels some. I wonder if some quick grips would help...vise grips ratcheting bar clamps. Wasn't too bad of a job.

+1 on having the bin as full as possible. Have a helper outside in case you need extra tools. Any chance that's a Stor-mor brand bin? I did one just like it a couple years ago.

I thought with the Rockford upgrade, you bolted the new lid collar on and then cut out the inside (old lid), and installed the hardware for the new lid.

I have 10 to do as soon as it's decent outside.

Yes it's a Stormer. Also you are supposed to be able to put the Rockford on then cut out the old one but my fiberglass comes down to far. The metal goes up further so bolting the new collar on shouldn't be a problem. It will rest on the fiberglass so I thought I should remove the old one. Bin is full also, wanted to do this before we empty it

I read the title of the post and thought I bet he has a Stor Mor. Not bad bins but the lids can be a issue.

Southern Ontario

Just wondering. Got a few Westeel's that could use an upgrade.
