Is it that heavy or how do you keep it in place without tipping it? I think the biggest problem would be ice on the net wrap

N.D

it does not tip  you come in from the end  like the video . it takes very little down pressure . the blade is quite sharp. if the stand is on a frozen ground put it against a bale or any small obstruction  .

as for ice  and snow the part of the bale that sets on the ground usually is ice free  but even if there is ice and snow drop the bale before cutting  .It does cut.

just how it works for me.
There is one job I dislike and that is cutting and removing net wrap off round bales. So I came up with this idea. Cutting off net wrap when the weather is cold, windy, raining, snowing and you have lots of cattle trying to eat the bales while your cutting off the wrap.(not fun) And your wife has way more important things to do.

Some say or think there is to much waste. Let me explain.
There is hay that comes off with the wrap ,some times a lot sometimes little or nothing. But trust me I don't waste it. I will drop that in a bale ring all by itself, the cattle will eat what is palatable and leave the net.
After many feedings simply lift the ring off the waste set the ring down and scoop up the waste,  dispose of in a legal way. LOL .

Just piling the net on the same place everyday creating a pile where the cattle have access also works. the cattle will browse through it ,clean up what is palatable and use it for a mound.
My experience with net wrap is it balls up (not like twine) So it really does not drag far from where it was dropped.

Its a new approach to a old problem.

If you just think outside the Box and disregard tradition, It sure beats the tradition.

My hat goes off to Thomas Edison. LOL

Thanks everyone

I could not let cows eat through the mess of net like that.
The guys on NAT would cry a river and never let it go. No seriously it does nother seem like a good idea doing that.

I wish I had a section of stockpiled grass to graze right now and to hell with the netwrap.

I had the occasion on a postmortem of a ewe last spring to pull a quantity of net wrap from her rumen. It was bunched hard into 2 connected lumps and likely was a major cause in her death. The color on the net wrap was not the same as any that I have had on any bales I fed here. As I don't like deads much you won't find net wrap piled here where any ruminant has access to it!!! (And never will.)

I am glad it works for you. No way I can see it working here. We feed bales in so many different locations it would be impractical. Plus on dry short grass hay such as Bermuda or crabgrass, the bales wouldn't stay together well enough. Maybe instead of accusing others of not being able to think "outside the box" you should realize just because something might work for you, doesn't mean it will work for everyone.

On short Bermuda hay that thing would double as bale feeder because once you got that bale like that it'd go poof and they whole bale would be blowed apart.

The fact that you feed in so many locations is solved by the fact that they are inexpensive to make you could have ten of them and  would not break the bank.

also I mount one on  my hay trailer goes with where ever I need.

as far as short stuff people take there bale processors and blow the hay on one spot and then pick it up with the loader. how short is that mess.

as for thinking out side the box   just eliminates reasons things can't work.

If you are going for inexpensive I think knives with the removable razor blades are about as inexpensive as you can get. Plus in all the different locations we are feeding with bale beds. And are we talking about feeding with a processor or putting bales out. I was talking about cutting the net off bales with your device. Once it is cut off the short grass bale is going to become a heaping pile on top of the stationary knife with the net wrap mixed in it. Sometimes people have to think outside the box and realize there is very seldom 1 solution for everything. By the way you were the 1 asking for opinions on a product you are trying to sell. You have done that more than once on this forum and whenever someone doesn't agree with you, you accuse them of not being able to think outside the box. Kind of closed minded for someone who values "outside the box" thinking.

Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251

They work great on dry, long stemed, densely baled hay that holds its shape with the net cut. With wet silage bales of stuff like wheat, or year old, loose bales, short hay, etc, we found the bale tends to partially come apart and drop a lot of hay right there on the knife stand, and you make a mess, especially if you then need to drive over to load in a tmr or across the pasture to bale rings.

We are going to install one on the edge of a new concrete feed mixing pad by a silage pit where we will fill a feed wagon and spills are the goal.

Looks like a mess to me, but may work well in the right situation.

I'll stick with the tried and true, more labor intensive and saves on
gym memberships :)
