Do any of you mix it together on farm or not bother because of lack of effectiveness?

Not sure what you are asking?

Glyphosate and 2-4D are routinely tank mixed.

If you are asking about mixing concentrated products directly i have no idea.

I thought they in some way didnt go well together ie were antagonistic without the right surfactant?

I mix generic gly (cornerstone or glystar) with 2-4d.

You have to be careful how you mix them. If the 2 undiluted liquids mix, they gel really badly.

Whats the best way to do it please and what rates do you tend to use? Presume you use no surfactant, wetter or sticker? This is for pre planting

Rates vary on what you're trying to kill.. last year with everything small in march, I sprayed 1.5 qt of 4lb and a pint of 2-4d.. I've doubled it before and added hellfire or aduro to heat it up. Used both liquid AMS(like alliance) and dry.. used it with and without a compatibility agent. I'm not at home so I don't remember what the compatibility agent was.
I always add AMS first with about half a tank of water, then any other powders or compatibility agents, then add the 2-4d, and make sure I rinse my inductor mixing tank well, the glyphosate last.

our experience is the 2,4-d will react in the plant very fast and interfere with the round-up doing its thing and you end up with half dead sick weeds that survive, when needed we make two passes at least a day apart.

Germany

there is a combined product named Kyleo on the german market. It is quite spendy but independent advisors discouraged generic home blends due to lesser efficiency. I have never used either (only separate products) so can't judge. Might be a matter of surfactants or other ingredients.

Do it all the time. Ester 24d like barrage or LV6 has less mixing problems than plain old amine.

It still mixes water conditioner fist, glyphosate, 24d last. 24d barely likes the water in the inductor so just make sure none of the concentrates touch each other. Lots of water will flush it either way though.

I've never had an issue killing when mixing the two. I think those that do probably put a low rate of roundup into hard water.

Clay based products need extra roundup because they tie it up bad. 25% over what would normally be enough.

Burners like sharpen and gramoxone are the main things that kill too fast for glyphosate.

+1

Touchdown (generic Roundup) & LV6 are pretty common burn down partners here too.

Read the label to get the mixing right, different glyphosate products come with different surfactant packages, so what works with one may be different with another.

I was asking because I'm in the UK and I have sometimes have issues with something called Rosebay Willowherb in long term no till fields. I think you guys call it fireweed and it laughs at roundup sometimes.

As I've increased my cover cropping it is dying out a bit but sometimes throws up a lot. I was going to use Kyleo but it is pricey and then not sure if the glyphosate load is high enough in it. 24D and glyphosate can be bought separately quite cheaply so was wondering that.

I think I'll do a separate pass on one block and mix on another to see what works best

Here, we use Gly and 24D together in burn down regularly. And I must be pretty dumb,as I never pay attention to mixing order, only put the AMS in first, then add whatever is at hand first.

...I have never had an issue with 2-4,D and Glyphosate going on together. If you really understand how 2-4,D works...it actually causes a plant to grow at an an unsustainable rate. That's why they are called "Plant Growth Regulator" products. I don't think you would ever see Mark Loux agree 2-4,D causes more issues with glyphosate. That said.....I mix the conditioner first (AMS)...and any Dry Flowable products second (Metribuzin, Simazine). Then I add any clay based liquids (Atrazine 4L, Sharpen, Callisto), and then any emulsifiable liquids...(2-4,D, Clarity, Acetachlor, Metolachlor, etc.). After those are all in...the glyphosate goes in...with an extra gallon of surfactant into the top of the tank. I don't have mixing problems...except for foam from the metribuzin or simazine when I've got too much air sucking through the inductor. I try to shut that valve as soon as the product is out of the tank.
