Subject: John Deere 7000 planter

Central Oklahoma
Just bought this planter and started rebuilding all the worn parts. We had everything going our way until we hooked up the hydraulics today and only one side would lift. Loosened the hoses on the side that wouldn't lift, hoping to bleed air out of the system, but that didn't help. Pulled the cylinder off (dang it's heavy) and took it apart. Very simple cylinder and we found nothing wrong with it. Put it back together and hook it back up and now it won't lift either side! Looking at how the cylinder is made it only has one hose that pushes fluid into the backside of the pistons which in turn would push fluid to the cylinders that push the wheels down. I'm thinking since we drained all the fluid from the wheel cylinder side, there is no fluid to push on that side and no way for fluid to get to that side. Is there a way to get fluid on that side? What am I over looking? Thanks for any help. Below is a pic of what my hydraulic system looks like...

Did you open the breather on top of the cylinder? Or the actual hydro line to the cylinder?

Did you get a manual with the planter? It explains quite well on how to cycle the cylinders.

I had a ton of problems last spring with my planter not going into the ground. I found out way more than I ever wanted to know. I needed a new master and lifts.
I had a guy come out to help, he has worked on these planters 25 years and said this was the hardest one to ever get figured out.

Hopefully yours will work after you read the book and run through the cycle process.
Also, do a search on ag talk here, a lot of good info on how to get the cylinders to work.
The proper terms of the cylinders are master and slave, some times lift cylinder works for a search also.

Good luck, email me for my number if you want to talk to me.

I didn't get a manual... yet. I've figured out with the help from you guys how to bleed the air from the system but broke off a bleeder valve. I removed the cylinder and found it was worn on the shaft and is ruined. Roydubs on here said he has a cylinder, so hopefully I can make a deal with him. Thanks for your help.

With planter lowered

#1- Loosen Hose Clamp - #24 in parts drawing.
Loosen it enough to slide over the end of #26 and 19. Or
Undo the clamp to remove.

#2- Remove the two deals /spacers -#25

#3- Start tractor and move hydraulic lever to raise planter.
It should raise much higher than normal.
And at the end, both sides will level out.

#4- Lower planter. Does not have to be all the way down. But lower than below the normal raised position.

#5- Replace spacers #25 and hose clamp #24. Tighten clamp.

Because of loosing a lot of oil, there is a chance you may have to do #3 more than once.

I don't know how long I ran mine broke off but I know I used it for a while broke off. I remember one day wondering why my planter lifted so high. I was cycling my cylinder every time I lifted it. Made me nervous that I could lift it to high but it never really did lol

You have to remove the spacers (#25) and raise planter all the way up. Then you either have someone hold the hydraulic lever in the raised position or lock it there somehow. Then bleed each wheel cylinder at the top bleed screw. I put a hose on the bleed screw and let the oil go in a clean jug, that way I can put back in tractor. After all air is out put spacer (#25) back in and you will be good to go.

Are you serious? After trying to get the bleeder valves broke free on the last one I twisted it off. I then removed the cylinder and found it had been leaking due to a worn shaft where the bracket that holds it up had worn into the end of the cylinder and shaft. I've been searching for one on the web. If you are serious my number is 405-640-7893. Give me a call and thanks!
