Looking at purchasing a small sp sprayer.will be covering approximately 1100 acres, probably twice plus resprays.unit looks clean and maintained well.it is a yellow. Top and has a raven 440 and raven control valves.it has a foam marker system and 60 ft booms. No guidance of any sort.qestion
1.? Can some sort of autosteer and section control be installed at a reasonable cost. If so what is recommended? And if not? What is a good lightbar to get.TIA

Back when I ran a 6700 I installed the Deere ATU system, worked OK at best. It seemed like at the high speeds a sprayer runs, its hard for the unit to keep up. I put a nice TeeJet lightbar in and got along great. In fact when I traded for a 4830 I kept the lightbar system from my 6700 and would sell it for a reasonable price if interested.

65/6700 are way batter than the 6000's but all of em ride like a log truck!! Look at the frame on any of these models as they tend to crack right behind the engine below the front of the cab. Front fold Hardi built booms way better than the rear fold. Good machine for the money, but your back will know you did something at the end of the day.

Good machines but for that kind of acreage I'd consider going for something with rear suspension as well as front suspension. If you must though and you can find one, get one with a T tank. Better ground clearance than the verticals tanks.

Good luck!

I used to own a 6000 sprayer. If you have hilly ground I would advise you to consider another sprayer. When full they are extremely light on the front end. DO NOT try to go straight up a hill. You will see the sky very quickly. They are good on flatter ground but an accident waiting to happen on hills. I had front end weight on mine and it still was risky.

If u want easy guidance, trimble 500 and ez boom plus ez steer would work. Dont know the cost used. The ezboom uses the raven equipment u already have. I have used cruzer 2 for light bar and section control, its not nearly as good as the 500.

as far as the 6000 vs 65 or 67, the money in my area to trade up is silly. I bought a 6500 for 10k and it needed boom hydro repair and tank saddle was gone. Found a hagie 284 for 15k that jd wanted to trade for my 65. It is twice the machine of the 65. We still run a 6000 for extra help. Its a great machine if u have smooth ground. Its light and simple.

I like my 6500 with hydro. I sprayed a bit with manual transmission and pull type and i could run laps, now i think some of that is pull type but some of it is the maneuverability of hydro, stop, backup, turn, and go so much quicker. I'm all for cheap and simple, keep cost low, but it would be hard for me to give up hydro in my sprayer for covering those kind of acres, now if you were doing 300 acre 2x over i'd be all for it. I really like my sprayer for my situation, it's not perfect, ride isn't the greatest, but really is handy little rig. Turns like our Super H, very light weight, seems to do nice job. I run pre's before/after planter, then post right after sidedress, then can sprayer a fungicide or something late if wanted, even built my own Y drops for it.

Mine had a 440 but i added an Integra hooked up for auto swath, auto rate, and a lightbar. I am always following 30" rows so no big deal on steering. I do 2-3k acres a year total with it which is easy as pie, i'm also only one planting and sidedressing and do spraying when i can. I do have tender man or at least water man as i mix myself. I can work alone if needed with the tow bar and 3/4 pickup tows great, then go back for water and do sometimes. If a guy had a tandem around for grain would be great dual purpose rig to put tanks/chemical in box and tow the sprayer.

A 6000 is kind of fun, or exciting or something. I'd be scared to put autosteer in it, worry the autosteer would turn the wheel, 6000 doesn't turn, autosteer keeps turning then eventually the tire catches and you roll. Always thought it'd work better with a 3-rib front tire and some weight.

Amazes me that anybody ever bought a 6000 new when they could have had a spray coup. Maybe deere was doing a buy a 4850 get a free 6000 special or something.

I have had several 6000 sprayers and they have been bullet proof. The minus is 320 gallon tank ,rough ride ,and not good if wet.We still have one that is used for pastures and ditches. The 6000 along with 6500 with narrow front is one of the few sprayers that can handle tall corn the 420 gallon tank is better but with our newer 1000 gallon DTS10 Hagie we can spray near 90+ acres an hour compared to 450 acres on a good day.The maintanence is much higher per acre with our newer sprayer but comfort level is much higher. With JD buying controlling interest in Hagies they have wholesaled many big sprayers older than 2012 on BigIron. Autosteer hasn't worked out for our COOPs as they spray above 15MPH.We always used foam markers or lightbar which was fine. The minus we used to drive 5 miles for parts now we might have to wait to get parts from JD dealership and all Hagie technicians are now JD employees.
