Subject: Any dealings with BKT tires?

Northern Texas
About to put some new rears and dauls on the 4555. They are 18.4-42s. I priced some BKTs and Firestones. I can get the BKTs for $200 per tire cheaper. We haven't ever used BKTs, but our neighbor just put some on the back of his 8130. Has anyone used this brand, and if so, would you say the Firestones are worth $200 more per tire? Mostly use this tractor for disk, field cultivator, and grain cart.

Thanks!

I agree, I don't have extensive knowledge but in my personal experience the list would be just like that and Goodyear would be a very distant 4th.

A couple other things, I think Michelin is probably right with their inflation values BUT you need to manage the load to the pressure very carefully if you are trying to run the ultra low pressures. You can run 4-6 psi in tractor rears but if you change the weight, you better be checking charts and tires.

The other thing, most rubber is showing up "green" at the dealers / vendors these days. Tires don't lay around in inventory very long. If you want the best wear out of a tire it should be aged a little. When possible, plan ahead and have the tires on hand for a year if possible. They'll wear a lot better. My opinions only.

I put them on the back of a IH 1066 two years ago. So far I like them and yes they are less in cost. Would buy them again.

Have some on the back of the mixer tractor, holding up very well. Although, This tractor hardly ever sees pavement.

I have some, would buy them again or maybe even prefer them for most applications on haying tractors.

On mostly tillage/big baler tractors I still prefer Firestones. Just seem to pull a little better, but that is just my perception only.

We've run them on the back of our 4710 sprayer for 6 years now and the front for a year. Wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

Anything but POJ Michelin. put 2 BKT on inside fronts on 2360 to replace the side wall cracked Michelin but only used for 2 years then traded tractor now have Firestone seem ok have 1200 hour on them. The Michelin had hardly any wear at 3000 hour side walls cracked put tubes in some.

I put some Michelins on the front of my mfd tractor. I'm keeping more air in them than they recommend, supposed to keep the sidewall cracking away. Time will tell.

I've had them, front and back, on a JD 7700 mfwd tractor that is used for haying and loader work mainly. Zero issues and very happy with the BKTs. Forgot to add they've been on for four years.

I have been Firestone for years after bad Good Years that did not hold up. But recently I bought Mitas rear tires far cheaper than Firestone and better warrentee. Mitas made in Charles City Iowa. Real satified with them!!!

West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12
I put a set of BKT bar lug compact tractor tires on my 1770 16x30 corn planter several years ago. I have dry fert on the planter so they carry a lot of weight, especially the four on the main frame when you go down the road with fert and seed boxes half full or more.

I have had no problems with them, and they are showing very little wear.

Put BKTs front and rear on my NH 8670 3 years and a 1000 hours ago. They see a fair amount of pavement. I can say they show very little wear. Now I have a 07 NH 115A with 840 loader on with 5000 hours that has the original Michelins on yet and I expect to get at least another 1000 hours out of them. When its time for new ones on this tractor it will probably get Michelins again.

Have a set on a 9300 and the front of 8310. No till stubble eating them up pretty bad. I don't think I would buy another set. There about 2 years old and 1300hrs on the 8310 and had to slim both tire this last year.

Do You think any other tire would hold up to being driven on no-til stuble? I doubt this is a good reason to dislike BKT tires.

Have a set on the front of my loader tractor, it gets a fair amount of road use. So far I would say they are wearing as good or better than anything else.

Put some on the front and rear of my 8300 6 or 7 years ago. They are holding up well. I would buy them again because of the cost.

Tires are still round and black, but things have changed over the last decade or so.

Some BKTs were fast wearing at first but have since changed them and most wear well now.

Michelin was known for cracked sidewalls, but updated the agribib with better protection against the higher UV exposure the NA market has.

Mitas bought the Continental line and makes a great long wearing tire.

Firestone is sticking with the 23* bar for many row crop tires in NA, but selling a lot of deep tread versions to compete with the R1W tread that is standard on many of the other tires. The 23* advantage is on hard ground with R1 tread, the R1Ws loose some of this advantage. The steeper lugs on every other tire may suffer slightly on hard ground, but are superior in soft conditions, clean out better, hold sidehills, wear better on the road and ride smoother.

Goodyear is still the same old poor tire though.

One thing to pay attention to with any tire quote, especially Firestone, is the details. There may be different versions of the tire, different tread and different load index and speed ratings. The price spread from the cheapest "Firestone Radial" to the most expensive in the same size can be huge.

BKT last as long as any. No more Goodyears OR Firestones on our farm due to premature wear despite the extra cost.

Bkt will outlast about anything. Only thing better I have found is Michelin. Firestone is a joke on hot pavement. Midas and Continental suck up every stalk they can find if you run in our heat. I'll take a Goodyear over firestone on the roads here though.
