I am going to be replacing the liners on a perkins 4.236 engine in a massey 375. I've only every replaced wet liners. What method works best to pull and replace these liners. From what I've seen they are a really tight fit.

They are along the same principal as a early mack engine. Some weld beads to shrink the liner others will spray them with propane to freeze them or other industrial gasses with the same results. At one time I also had a sleeve splitting chisel that I bought at a sale from a old dieselship Personally I haven't found a method that wasnt a ton of work

Their right, weld some beads inside to shrink them, they should come right out.Back when we had regular Freon we would spray the liners to freeze them, they would drop about 3/4 the way in, but had to be ready with a block of wood and hammer to finish them quick! If you have an adjustable cylinder hone (not spring loaded), hone them slightly after installing as they can tend to go out of round just a hair when you install them.

Run a good bead or two of weld inside the old liners. That should shrink them enough to make pulling them easy. Get yourself a nice size cooler to stand your new sleeves in, and fill/surround them completely with DRY ICE. Close the lid and let them sit in that awhile. That will chill them to about -25°F. Check their temp to verify. Set the cooler beside your engine, and one at a time drop them into the engine block. Use a wooden block and heavy rubber mallet to finish seating them into the engine block.

(edited to add) A good chest type freezer that's in use and sitting close to the tractor works well too. Or move to Minnesota and just let them sit outside, they'll be cooled to -25°F in no time, LOL. (maybe Ontario is like that too?)

If I remember correctly they need to be bored after they are pressed in. Since you have a 236 don't remove them have them bored to a 248. I did this to a 170 Allis years ago. Definitely talk to a Massey dealer before you pull them! Craig

I have pulled them out with 2 hydraulic Jacks on a sleeve puller.

Thanks for the replies. This tractor is in for a spun rod bearing due to oil starvation. Im taking the block and crank into an expert tomorrow morning, I'm hoping he will tell me if the liners are ok or need to be changed. I just wanted to get an idea on what I was in for.

If you're taking the block in to a machine shop have him press the sleeves out. Get a kit overhaul it. Do not try to re-ring a Perkins never had luck getting it to seat.
