We are looking into a rotary brush cutter to put on our New Holland C232 tracked standard flow skid loader. First off, will we be happy with the performance putting this on a standard flow machine? Mainly wanting to clear field edges of scrub brush and some clearing of undergrowth.

Seems to be a lot of companies out there making the rotary cutters...do any of them stand out above the rest? Any recommendations/things to look for/avoid? TIA

I used a diamond for a demo on my bobcat 205, standard flow. I believe it was a66 inch not a 72. And it was about right for size wise. biggest thing I chewed up was a 8 foot tall willow. The downfall is its heavy. Reason being its a heavy built mower.. I would own one in a heartbeat but 9,000.00 is not in my budget for a front mount mower for a skid loader..

I have the Diamond rotary head and been very satisfied with what it can do. It definitely cost more but very heavy built and worth the money. Also they're a great company to deal with

Diamond is good, but pricy - They are a heavy duty, heavy use commercial type cutter.
Brush Wolf is a heavy duty reliable unit. Price less then Diamond. Worth considering. http://www.brushwolf.com/

Possible this company also - http://www.erskineattachments.com/

I prefer glass . . . .  plexiglass scratches too soon and too much. Glass can take a pretty good hit and still clear. I've gone throw about 9 glass pieces for my skidsteer. Only had one plexiglass and never again.

Edit: A few of those "hits" would have taken the plexiglass out also - branch poked through glass . . .

I use laminated glass also - not tempered.

I rented a standard flow Bradco Ground Shark this fall, and was impressed with what it would do. On medium sized stuff it will leave stumps that look good for tire puncturing. I tried it on standing trees up to inch and a half diameter and it worked well, and cleaned up brush piles with some three to four inch pieces in them, admittedly brush piles were a year and a half old.

I like the prices of the ones at Unlimited Fabrication in North Carolina at www.rootgrapple.com , but have not bought anything from them yet. I think I will order one of theirs this winter unless someone on here has had a bad experience with them.

For a big project using a brush cutter more than a foot off the ground I think I want a good Lexan forestry door. I got by with just tilting the mower up away from the cab on my small project.

Depends on how big of stuff you want to cut

I have the Diamond Forestry head it will turn a 6" tree into mulch in about 5 seconds( also surprisingly good at mowing grass)
Can cut a tree up to about 14"

It DOES require a high flow, and 90+ HP, mine is 92 hp and 36 gpm wouldn't want any less.

Does it require an auxillary hydraulic oil cooler?
(I've observed auxillary oil coolers on the roof af Cat and ASV units when equipped with a 6' forestry mulching head.)

I have not used it in the heat of summer, got it in Sept. Haven't had any overheating problems , Bobcat 770

This is what a the Diamond rotary head can do too. Been thinking about getting the forestry head that Diamond makes too.

I brought a Blue Diamond 60 inch HD rotary cutter last year.
My cutter has 3 blades and standard flow hydraulic gearbox.
I vote for Blue Diamond

+1 on Brush Wolf,
Cross tech MFG is top notch. Quality is as good or better than Diamond Mowers. IMO I have ran both and like both. If you have a dealer for either one close you can't go wrong. I personally bought a 72" brushwolf and run it on 19 GPM and it's great. I use it for fence lines, and clearing buckthorn mostly.

Standard hydraulics will be fine with a brush cutter. You really don't need high flow unless you are running something like a cold planer. This is how John Deere's products are set up anyway.
