the truckers who have hauled my cattle for 30 years sold their trailer. I had a new trucker haul a load of fats this past week. it was 60k lbs , 214 mile haul, took 3.5 hours.one way, he charged 1.80 per pound , total cost to me of 1083 dollars. This seems high to me, i'd appreciate comments .... thanks.... i'm in illinois

I cant make the math come out to know exacly what you're paying, but I know it's not 1.80 a pound, Was the 60K the cattle weight or weight of the entire rig?

I pay my trucker 500 to haul 50000 lbs of cattle two hours away through a lot of hills. He will haul extra weight but it costs you some cash. Still wouldn't own my own truck even if he charged your guys rate.

That load would've cost me $975 currently here they get 380 per mile per 50,000 pounds plus $.38 for every 5000 pounds over 50,000 I think we have good roads and not a lot of traffic I suppose every situation is a little different

why loading 60000 lbs ? that is way over 80000.
In kansas getting caught at 96000 is jail time, (i thought anyway, might be wrong.) and in ks 86000 or 85500 is legal with spread axle so thats only 10000 over.

Anything over 50k is prorated....industry standard. I hire my neighbor and mentor to take care of all my loads.....don't even ask price. I try to sell all my fat cattle live....pack pays freight. Hiring trucks to haul calves.....that trailer better have been washed out and the floors covered in wood chips, my neighbor is top notch and He has my checkbook in his hand when it comes needing trucks. He took care of the four loads I got out of Montana and I never even asked about the freight rate.....guess I'll find out when I get the bill. Never understood overloading trucks.....creates additional stress on incoming calves plus you pay for it anyway via pro-rate.

Used to be most trucks here wanted fuel price plus .50 cents a mile. However when fuel hit the $4 range they backed off to $ 4 or 4.50 tops. I might have paid $5 sometimes, I can't remember. They charge $100 load fee if hauling under 100 miles, plus mileage. About lowest I've paid in the last few years was $3.85 a mile. Good truckers, they are allways on time, trailers clean.
I don't want low ball cattle hauler. Rather pay more and have cattle taken care of.

If it's prorated or by the cwt the bigger the load the bigger the bill. There's money in it but you gotta have the right connections and willing to run like a dog.

What's a legal load in your state anyway? That's what I was always getting for a 250 mile haul of kill cows usually 60k which is perfect for me going through ne and sd. Next time figure out before hand what the rate will have to be to bring it down to $4 a mile and tell them that's what your paying, bet they still do it.
