Subject: Orthman 785 Lift Assist - Need Orthman Bearing Part #120-036

East Troy, WI
I have a set of Orthman lift assist trailing wheels with some bad bearings and cannot find someone to service these things locally (yet).    The sealed ball bearing I think are NTN # AL5205-104 -- though the numbers are difficult to discern. Outer Diameter is ~ 62 mm, bore is 1.25 - or about 32 mm.  Width is ~15/16.

For Orthman Hub # 303-095 ......
Orthman bearing number is 120-036

Deere buys Bars and lift assist systems from Orthman - the cross reference is:
Lift assist on 1720 planter - assembly  BA28580
John Deere Hub Part Number AA50499

Deere does not list the bearings separately from the hub.      Can anyone cross this bearing?  Alternatively - point me to a Orthman dealer that stocks parts.   Is there actually a Deere part # to be found?

 Thanks.

I'll get it for you in the morning. Have extras in our shop but can't remember the number right now.

They are sealed ball bearings.  Two used per hub on the 785's (heavy lift assist set-ups used 4 on the 8 bolt hubs however).

Wow- an Agco dealer?   Did you just bring in the original?

I think it is this bearing. NTN ALS 206-104N.  Not sure if their are crosses or if there are NTN dealers around. How about the pipe spacer deal that the bearings mount on-did that get damaged or did you catch it before they got that far? I have an extra one of them sitting around that I ordered from Orthman that was for a 1720 planter which is an Orthman bar.

I don't remember its been a few years, but I did write the # in the book. and it didn't ruin spacer. if you don't get it send me an email.

I suppose this is ruined - but I may try to run it.  I actually want to redesign these hubs to have pre-loaded roller bearings (and re-greasable) - so this is somewhat temporizing for a few hundred acres or maybe through the fall.   I should probable get a spare - you looking to sell it?

the cut line you see has another story behind it...

It's JD #L1912C

Looks to be a SKF bearing; SKF yet 203-104

My spacer tubes look about like that and run just fine, they don't have weight on them.

Seems like that 3 is a 6,

SKF YET 206-104 probably.  This should help.  Motion Industries or someone else can get me the NTN or SKF.  The SKF has an eccentric which I am pretty sure the NTN doesn't have (maybe, the inner race is almost unrecognizable).  Mine is mutilated but will need to confirm that I can  fit the Deere bearing in the orthman-branded lift assist.

All very good information.     I hope this helps someone else out, too.

Called here:   http://www.farmdepot.biz/.  275 Columbia St. Caro, MI 48723.   They service a fair amount of Orthman machines and have parts for them.

The bearing off their shelf for 120-036

Peer FHR-206-20,NO! collar and TOTAL width of 0.936 --- very unusual 206 bearing.  This is different than the listed Deere part number - and the NTN number listed above.   I suspect this maybe a custom bearing spec for Orthman.  NTN said it was not a standard stock item.  Very irritating.

I have two coming.

Interesting, let me know how they work, Ive learned to replace these yearly as preventative maintenance. They don't seem very tough.
