Dont know about cheap, but Lanair makes very nice units. Most are completly self contained ie.... pump, tank, buner, fan, plenum, just need air compressor and electric hooked up.

well first off NOTHING is cheap in todays economy!! there is a bunch of brands, clean burn, lanier, columbia. we want to get something here for our shop, but its gotta be a boiler since we have in floor heat. i am staying out of it and letting the boys handle it. last time i asked they had found a company that made a dual burner that would fit our existing boiler. it will burn waste oil or fuel oil.

HECO makes waste oil burner kits that use barrels. They are not automatic but they get the job done for about as cheap as you can go unless you build one from scratch. http://www.haroldelectric.com/WOHstart.htm

"Good" and "cheap" donot belong in the same sentense. I recently bought a new Clean Burn Used Oil furnace before the price increase. It still set me back about $5000. I figure after the initial expense, the rest will be free. If it lasts 25 years, I'll have $200 a year in it and all the heat I need out of it. Just my opinion.

we have one that is very reliable and should be fairly cheap to make it is about a 16" pipe about 3 feet tall with a fire box in the bottom and it uses a oil can for the pump I don't know how efficient it is but it puts out heat and gets rid of oil

You may be able to find a used system. We bought ours from MECHANICAL SYSTEMS in I think St. Charles MO?? They had some used ones. We have a Clean Burn furnace It works fantastic. We have about 2500 hrs on it in about 6 yrs old. We have to clean it once or maybe twice a year if we burn alot of oil. We run about 900 to 1300 gallons a yr. We can open the door to the shop and it will stay 60 in the shop. It requires very little maintenance thru the yrs. Pretty much just burns oil and heats shop is white and have never had anything discolored on the roof at all. Some of the "cheap" units I have heard of a few problems.

I have a Reznor used oil furnace which would run around $5000 new? Use approx 1500 gal oil/yr. in well insulated 3000 sq/ft shop. Local "bike shop" uses an old fuel oil furnace with low press burner, to burn used oil, which is lighted manually and shut down at night. Better have a good source of oil before taking the plunge.
