What do you guys think of these? I used 3/4" EMT conduit, the top is 60 degree bend, i set them to about 45 degree angle, and welded them together in the middle. Hose clamp helps hold things together while i tacked them together. Started out they were 24" wide tip to tip, first 2 pictures. Then decided to put another 22.5 is degree bend back. That seems to flow through the 2x2 corn field really good. I'm convinced i can get a nice band next to the corn rows no problem. I'm worried about them riding up in full canopy? Would like to even try these in 30" full canopy soybeans as well. I'm also unsure how to get this connected to the boom. I could probably just zip tie the hoses together and take them up to the boom and connect them somehow, welcome all ideas. The last two pictures are just another quick idea i had. It adds quite a bit of weight, maybe too much, i'm afraid of how fast they will wear out on the bottom then. These will be going on a JD 6500 so trying to keep things as simple and light weight as possible, thinking skip row setup for 60' boom, main thing will be running them in V10-VT corn.

One other question, how many acres do you think they will last? EMT isn't but 1/16" wall or so, i'm worried after 100 acres they will be shot. These things are dirt cheap, 3$ does 2 rows worth of EMT, probably use a roll of 1/2" hose for 130$, i need few fitting for the top still.

Thanks in advance.

Ya 28% is gonna beat the metal up pretty quick like u said. But i wonder ?? If your good with a heat gun,,,,could ya use pvc ?? I think its possible,, may take a couple tries , but i bet ya could do it. I like your idea

Right now i'm thinking of getting some stainless steel for final build and using the just EMT for design to get everything figured out. Not 100% on that. Just looking online SS for this project would not be that expensive, maybe couple hundred dollars. but EMT would be $20 and i have it all sitting here waiting.

Though i had was if that hose is all one top to bottom leaks should not be an issue, with the 1' drop hose i'm thinking i won't get UAN on them but i know how it goes, UAN gets on everything. Honestly i was more worried about them riding on the dirt all day and wear out that way but i think that is a valid point as well.

How much of a problem will shut/turn on time be? With all that hose i'm worried about that. Thinking about a check valve like this in the system https://www.dultmeier.com/products/0.689.1008.3565/5589 but i'm not sure it would hold up on the tail and with me using the hose as the drop i'm not sure it would handle that stress either. I know they work great on my planter.

I hadn't though of PVC, i wonder if torpedo heater would work? I've never worked with bending it. You thinking like the white drain PVC? How can i "weld" them together in the middle? That stuff is pretty tough, would probably last just as long.

I was also thinking about making some to try this year. I was thinking about making them similar to nutra boss. I assume this is your plan as well. I do not believe the plastic will hold up. That is just my opinion. Stainless all the way. I think the ends will be hardest on them. A pretty decent video shows how much the they move around just in picked stalks. Maybe you've seen it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nm_fdCPiS_g

I think you are on the right track with stainless steel. Should wear longer and the corrosion resistance would be much better.

I used pvc to build mine, just used a small propane torch to heat it, bends very easily. This will be my 5th season using them with no issues.. I looked into metal, but pvc is much easier to cut and bend, and cheaper.

I'd love to see some pictures, email works if you would rather.

Maybe i'll try and use some Stainless Steel for the final version. What do you think the best bet is for the drop, just use the 1/2" hose and maybe hose clamp to the boom? Wish i could get a check valve in their some place?

I see lot of the fitting for sprayer nozzles are 3/8" hose, You think that would work as good? Maybe i should just run some 3/8 tubing inside the 1/2" as that stuff is dirt cheap.

I think I'd rather come over to your place and build those, and spend the difference between them and Y-drops on beer and barbecue.

I like where your head is at....I had a very similar idea last year. It was produced out of necessity after being locked out of our fields for a month. Worked very well on our hagie. I welded maybe 1 1/2" diameter by 4" long steel tubing on the front side of our boom for drops to mount. There is a 3/8" hole drilled in the tubing that a pin goes through to hold the units. The drop tubes are irrigator drops(polyethylene I believe) and then a 1/2" steel rod is bent for the "y" with conduit welded on the rod for routing purposes. Couplers at the rear of the y convert the 1/2" hose to 3/8" hydraulic hose. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
