I discovered this week that my automatic front hubs were not engaging. I had no idea this Ranger had Pulse Vacuum hubs . . . had never heard of them. The solinoid is working; I will buy new hoses and then check it out but it seems the inner diaphragm is not holding a vacuum. NAPA has the entire hub. I am curious if just the diaphragms are available??

The easy thing probably would be to put on manual hubs but I have grown accustom to these.

Thanks for any advice on parts availability and replacement.

Hi Gary.

That's quite the setup isn't it.

When my 99 gave me trouble like yours I just took out the mesh vent on the end of the hub lock and push on the plunger with a finger. It has a mechanism like a click pen. I can't remember which way it is but if you push it in all the way it disengages the hub. If I push it in half way it engages the hub I think. Was way cheaper and easier than rebuilding or putting manual hubs in.

Not sure if that makes sense. Mine's just a fence checker beater truck though. Doesn't get changed much.

Dearfield Co.
Who would of ever thought Gary was part of the RANGER DANGER group---------------------When my step son had one we finally gave up and put the locking hubs on . After the first set of vacuum hubs went we couldn't ever get anything to be 100% reliable after that

we put manual hubs on dads 99 ranger and both broke with in 2 years I belive rocky mountain brand so we just put the originals on again and did like said above just pushed them till they clicked locked in and unhooked the lines to them so they just stay locked in all the time now I think 00 or I know 01 model years and newer did away with the hubs and they are locked solid all the time so im not worried bout it to much dad has put 70k miles on it sense and never put a part on the front end yet

Thank you for the replies.

I replaced the two short rubber hoses on each side and it is working fine now.  NAPA does have the inner seal available for about $40, the entire hub would be about $130 IIRC.

The Ranger has just about 16 miles shy of 236,000 miles.  The hose I put on does not appear to be quite as heavy as the OEM hose so I may have to replace them again before another 236,000 miles.  Or maybe upgrade and make this just my field pickup instead of field and highway pickup.
