Subject: Willow creek Winter wheat seed

Montana
I have been raising Willow creek winter wheat, some for hay and some for seed. I am wondering if anyone knows of available certified Willow Creek, beardless hard red winter wheat seed.
I have a seed cleaner coming to clean what I raised and I hope it will clean up nice and than I will sell common seed.
I heard common seed was bringing $25 a bushel last year, I paid about $20 a bushel for my certified seed 4 years ago.

Willow creek seed is hard to raise as it shells out easy and is mostly straw. If my Common Cimmeron yields Thirty bushel, the willow creek on the same kind of ground yields about 15 to 20

Yellowstone Bearded wheat for grain will yield about 50 in the same soil and conditions.

I am interested in buying 25 to 30 bushel of Certified Willow Creek and am interested in what folks pay for common willow creek seed.

Willow creek winter wheat for hay, on my best soil made five ton per acre this year and 6 ton per acre last year. It got about 6 feet tall last year and about 5 feet tall this year. Cattle love it to graze and being beardless I really like the safety of that winter wheat.

I plant Fortuna Spring wheat and it will make beautiful hay too but spring wheat is sometimes not as good a crop for us as winter wheat.

I just got some certified willow creek to plant on a dry land 1/4 for grazing. Thought it was around $20 per bushel. Waiting on a rain to plant. I may be interested in som common seed for next year if this pans out. Have you compared it to triticale or rye as far as tonnage for hay, or just pounds of gain grazing out?

Friends have used Triticale and years ago some used Rye, Rye is a dirty word around here because you cannot get rid of it in Winter wheat it seems. I loved hay Barley but it drew every elk and pronghorn for miles and miles and wheat hay draws some too but Wheat hay gets the least impact from wildlife. I really want some Certified Cimmeron, It makes fantastic hay or good wheat but someone has that variety all locked up. I am screaming at Clearfield , trying to get them to get it and make it available. I have some common Cimmeron and it is about ten percent reverted to bearded I have a bit of Bearded wheat in my Willow Creek seed too. It would be nice to get some new certified and i am guessing it will be real expensive here.
