Montana | I have been raising Willow creek winter wheat, some for hay and some for seed. I am wondering if anyone knows of available certified Willow Creek, beardless hard red winter wheat seed.
I have a seed cleaner coming to clean what I raised and I hope it will clean up nice and than I will sell common seed.
I heard common seed was bringing $25 a bushel last year, I paid about $20 a bushel for my certified seed 4 years ago.
Willow creek seed is hard to raise as it shells out easy and is mostly straw. If my Common Cimmeron yields Thirty bushel, the willow creek on the same kind of ground yields about 15 to 20
Yellowstone Bearded wheat for grain will yield about 50 in the same soil and conditions.
I am interested in buying 25 to 30 bushel of Certified Willow Creek and am interested in what folks pay for common willow creek seed.
Willow creek winter wheat for hay, on my best soil made five ton per acre this year and 6 ton per acre last year. It got about 6 feet tall last year and about 5 feet tall this year. Cattle love it to graze and being beardless I really like the safety of that winter wheat.
I plant Fortuna Spring wheat and it will make beautiful hay too but spring wheat is sometimes not as good a crop for us as winter wheat.
