Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

Cover for new water system has one bolt to get cover off. It uses penta sockets but I'm not sure what size to buy. I did some research and thought one guy said size is measured from point to middle of opposite flat. My measurement comes close to 1-1/16 but can't find such an animal in 5-point. Anyone know for sure? Here are pics of other measurements of the bolt.

This is what you need. I have never seen a socket that size.

http://www.pentabolt.com/ measures point to flat but doesn't offer 1-1/16", just 7/8" and 1"

Lots seem to be 13/16" but what they measured they don't say. McMaster-Carr has only 13/16" but no hint of what is measured.

I have one of those wrenches to fit that in our barn. A lot of good that does for you! If you would be closer you would be welcome to use it.

In the last pic, the caliper is on a bit of an angle.

I'm betting you need the 1" size.

The caliper was flat on the  flat side and right on the point of the penta when I set the thing because I was using both hands. To take the picture, I was kneeling on lumpy ground, holding the camera with one hand, and the caliper with the other. That's why it shows a bit cocked in the picture. Believe me, it is no way an inch from point to flat.

If your not opening it every day a pair of channel locks works just fine.

Are you sure it's locked? Around here they just set the lid on and don't turn that bolt to lock it. All you have to do is lift.
