whats the difference between a 8860 and the HP units? Horsepower? I see you can get a hay head for them, sickle units only or discbine as well? Does the hay head share a common mounting with a discbine of that era?

Neighbour/friend has a low-hour (1508 hrs) one with an Agco 5200 draper, her husband passed away, and she wants to sell it next year for tax reasons. Way more machine than I need, but the price may be right, and she's flexible about the money. Just doing some day-dreaming/never-know-what's-in-the-cards thinking.

I think you're out of luck with the rotary header, mounts will be different as well as not near enough HP to run it. Not sure but I think the 8860 is the same as hesston 8250. I think they were around 85 horse. Really good machines though.

Truthfully not sure on the difference but I think you could only put a 14 ft sickle with conditioners or possibly a 16ft on (or a draper) No disc head as it is the newer equivalent of a 8830. With the Case numbered series you could only have a disc head on a 8850 or an 8880 and then it went to WDX and I am lost lol. Good machines as far as I know, still wishing we could have bought the one at a retirement auction a few years ago. Might not be a bad opportunity for you.

What's the difference between the 8860 and 8880? Big horsepower jump? Turbo and air-to-air/after cooler?

8880 has the 5.9L 6 cyl Cummins. And either a twin hyd pump system or a larger single pump that drives the header.
I think most any Hesston, Massey, Challenger, Agco header(draper or haybine) from late 90's through till about last year would fit right on a Case-IH 8860-70-80 tractor unit.
The 8860 will still have the two chains in each "leg" to drive the wheels.
The 8820 and 8830 were much smaller capacity machines and built lighter.
Not sure what frame size the 8840-8850 were.

I am not sure if the 8860 is turbo charged or not. It's big brother, 8870, is a good machine and 110hp. The 8860 might not have a road range and I make sure, if you want a hay head, it is a double sickle.
