Subject: Case 580E hydraulic problems

Soda Springs Idaho
I have a 580e and about a year ago all the rams started seeping at the same time.
It wont lift a load that it used to have no problem lifting a year ago. I used to be able to effortlessly put totes of seed in my air drill with the backhoe but it wont lift them anymore. The rams that would stay put for months, now settle in days (the outriggers, extenahoe, hoe bucket, loader, etc). I can easily force a ram to move, example: I can cause the loader bucket to roll over while back-dragging.

I rebuilt all the rams about 3 years ago (I have no leaks at all).
I replaced the pump about 1 year ago (after this problem came up). It helped a lot with drive/pushing power but didn't help with this problem at all.

I have no idea what is going on here.
I guessed that there is some common seal or something that has gone bad but I really have no idea how the hydraulic system works or where this seal(s) would be (if that is the problem).
Any advise will be appreciated.

Sounds like a main relief valve issue. Are all functions on the hoe portion week also. The only way all functions can be week is a pump issue or a main relief valve issue.

First of all pump and main relief will have no effect on any of the functions staying in place. That system has a Case built valve with load holds under all the secondary relief valves in the valve sections. My guess is the o rings are gone on the load hold valve. This will cause a weak backhoe and loader plus the load will drift. Will try to find the part # for the orings off the Case site.

Just brought up Case parts website. Page 408 on 580 super E. Item # 28. Part #G33686. This o ring is common to all the valve sections. 2 per section. Make sure the load is on the ground. Remove the port relief. You need a hook to pull check valve spring and poppet down. I think this is where you will find your leakage and drift is coming from.
