Curious if this is a deere front end or an after market?

Thanks

Bremen, KS
Yup, it's a Deere. My brother's 4020 now has a nice crack in the middle casting and he has been exploring options. Cousin has an LP 4020 with a replacement front end from a 4630 and adapter plate. They're mulling a trade. I'm guessing that even with a welded tube, the LP 4020 would be worth more with an original front end. Brother's 4020 is a loader tractor and would benefit from the heavier front end.

There have been aftermarket kits to fit a later front axle to a 4020. Some thought the original axle was weak even without loader service. I think the 7.60 x 16 front wheels where a lot of the problem because they would fall into plow furrows so easily and rip of spindles. When I changed to 11.00 - 16 my 4020 crossed plowed ground and ruts much easier and was a lot easier on the front axle because of the better floatation.

There were aftermarket axles too and many a 4020 may have a Shultz (IIRC) or 30 series Deere axle.

Would a 4520 or 4620 front axle bolt to a late 4020?

Chebanse, IL.....

Worthington Ag Parts (in MN) makes & sells a plate that adapts a 4430 cast beam axle to a 4020. It will raise your front end about 2" also. 4430s also have 8 bolt hubs. Axle, hubs, & wheels are stronger. Good for loader tractors. Not good for restorations.

The axle looks genuine John Deere but I'm thinking your canopy might not be.
