Subject: John Deere 8400 air conditioning


I've got no power to the compressor I checked the fuse and the relay switched with another relay still no power to the compressor I can force the compressor on with a battery charger then the system cools fine what am I missing.

When your pressurizer fan quits it cuts the circuit to the compressor. It's the fan under the floor board. IIRC, you can put a dummy plug in it to get running and replace the fan later.

I assume you have enough freon so check if you have power on the psi switches at rear of cab.

There is a diode in that system that will short out, but it normally takes the fuse out..
On the left side of the evaporator are the pressure switches.. (Could be one dual switch or two.) try jumping the switch and see.. There is also a evaporate core temp switch..(de-icing switch)..
If you pull the interior panel behind the seat you can see them.. Not the easiest to get too.. Some you had to go through an access plate under the rear cover..

Check the fuse for the pressurizer motor. If it is blown it cuts power to the relay for the a/c. Don't ask me how I know

Pull the floor mat out and unplug the the motor to test

Mine did that once and it was a bad wire connection on the on/off (snowflake) switch on the console. Didn't even have to buy a part for that one!

so this happened today to our 8400 no power to the back of the panel switch, ended up putting a fused jumper wire in from the power strip till we got time to look closer. fuse in the fuse box wasnt blown. was wondering if found out what found?
