I saw a post on Facebook with a picture of this famous poster, and couldn't help but wonder if anyone on here knows more about it. Where was it taken? What are the boys doing now?
There is a less famous variation of this with two old men that says "We've been farming too long!" that was taken near here. One of the old men went to our church when I was a kid. He has since passed away and the farm where the picture was taken has been sold to another local farmer.
So how about it, anyone know any more about the little kids?

Thanks for that link, I didn't realize the history behind the picture. My dad died in August of 1983 and I remember dad seeing that poster on the wall of a farm related business and dad made a comment to the business owner how cute that picture was, it was the first time dad or myself had seen the picture,,,,, and the rest is history. Memories,,,,,,this is one of those of my dad that I will never forget.

I have no reason to doubt the author of the article linked. That is the picture that is associated with Reiman Publications in most people's minds. In 2002 Reader's Digest bought Reiman for $760,000,000. I didn't know that until recently but I had noticed the magazines were no longer the "class act" they were years ago.

Blue Cap, I'll keep on the look out. Last one I saw was on a Case IH Combine that was traded in at TNT Equipment in Sandusky Michigan last year. It has since been sold or the painting removed. Their number is (810) 648-4050, they may be able to put you in touch with the farmer who traded it. Since I retired, I don't travel the area where he farms.

It would be nice to know what the boys are doing today, and have a current picture of them in bibbies. I wore bibs till I was about 5 years old and hated them, haven't worn them since.

I like to Google the phrase "You been Farming long" and see what turns up.
Currently we are 38 years old and both live in Fresno, CA.
My name is Chris and I am the one in the blue cap (hence the screen name). I have two little girls ages 4 and 6.
My brother Matt is married with two stepchildren and one little boy who is now 2 years old.
Neither of us owns a pair of bib overalls anymore, and have only worn them a few times since we outgrew the first pair.

I recall first seeing the picture in the early '80s on a Surge dairy equipment calendar. They had recaptioned it, but I forget to what. I recall seeing it captioned as pictured above some time later and my first reaction was that the Surge caption was better. Of course, at the time I thought the calendar was the original which is likely incorrect.

I have that poster (with OshKosh caption) on my mancave wall behind me. I always thought it was a couple youngsters shilling for OshKosh. They haven't graduated to Pioneer, Monsanto, John Deere, ... outerwear yet.

Has anyone seen the one with a little girl sitting in the passenger side of a semi looking down at a little boy with his foot up on the step? I believe the caption was " What's your handle honey"? I seen it in a truck stop once and I haven't been able to find it since then. I would like to get it for the garage.

My grandmother had the figurine of those boys. I don't know what happened to it now. Probaboley got sold at the auction with all the other stuff I'd give my right arm for like her pancake griddle.

It is nice to see so many people with good memories of our picture. I like to look up the phrase "You been farming long" to see what turns up, and it always brings a smile to my face.
My name is Chris, and I am the one on the right in the blue cap. My brother and I live in Fresno, CA and are now 38 years old. We both have children now who are much more photogenic than us. My brother has a two year old boy and I have two girls, ages four and six.
My Mom, who took the photo, now lives in the little town of Lompoc, CA. She has looked into the copyright, which is now owned by Reader's Digest. The problem is that they are a huge organization and this contract that would give them exclusive rights is just an old piece of paper buried in an old file cabinet somewhere. It isn't really worth their interest and I suspect they may not even know where to look to find it (if they even still have it). Aside from the unpleasant business with Reiman (which is explained in the link in the next post) we have a lot of good memories of this old picture and don't feel like it is worth more unpleasantness to try to get the contract out of Reader's Digest. We are all doing fine, and so we need not make ourselves miserable over a little money.
Thank you again for all the kind words and for sharing your memories.
God Bless,
Chris Jacobs

I am not involved in agriculture these days, beyond my small vegetable garden. My Grandfather and Father bred Guernseys and I have shown some at the fair when I was younger.
I hope that doesn't ruin my image as a poster child for agriculture. I do have a great appreciation for agriculture, and I hope to instill that in my daughters.
