I'm currently setting my 12 row 7100 for planting milo. I took a 50 tooth reduction sprocket of my 7000 6 row and put it on the 7100. When I put the sprocket on and wrapped the chain around the sprockets, the chain was a half link short. The sprockets on both planters are the same aside from the 7000 uses a large 10 tooth and the 7100 uses the small 20 tooth. I have a large tooth and small tooth reduction gear and I tried them both, but got the same results.
The top photo is of the 7100 and the same chain as in the lower photo, same sprocket set up as the 7000 in the bottom photo. Why is the chain shorter?

I thought the small 50 tooth is the same as the large 25 tooth? As stated I tried both, small and large tooth sprockets, with the same results. They work on my 7000 but not on my 7100.

Maybe between the pull type planter and the 3 pt planter Deere made a small change in distance between the shafts in the transmission . How much Milo are you going to plant this spring?

First of all, this will be my first year ever raising milo. I'm going to plant 250-300 acres and I contracted a million pounds at Cargill for September/October delivery. I booked it at $4.80 a bushel and at only 4000lbs an acre. I'm planning for the worst and hoping for the best.

Maybe the chain stretched and was shortened at some point since new, maybe the bigger sprocket just requires more chain. Count some links or put chains side by side to compare length.
Can you get the chain tight if you add an offset link? If you can get it to run smooth.......knowing exactly why or how it is different may not ever matter.

Its the same chain, I just sprayed it with diesel. If I can get a link I'll do as you say, just kind of odd that they'd be different.

yOUR TEETH ARE NOT THE SAME ON EACH SPROCKET. One looks bigger so they don't set down as far. looking at your pic
The big sprocket in the bottom pic was tried on the 7100 in the top pic, with the same results. The large tooth and small tooth sprockets are supposed to interchange with that chain. I have another 7100 8 row planter and it has all large tooth sprockets. When setting the transmission for specific planting, the charts in my manual are given with large tooth sprocket. Since I have small tooth, I just multiply by two.
