I'm rebuilding a 455 JD grain drill. Bought some bearings for disc openers from one of the aftermarket parts house. After assembling the first disc noticed it had allot of play. Tried a few more bearings, all the same. Put old bearing in....no play. Put new bearing in vice pinched inner race, you can move outer race side to side by hand. Some quality china manufacturing there...

You have to be careful, some of the aftermarket bearings simply aren't up to snuff. I've bought aftermarket disc bearings though, that were the same as original equipment...so it isn't always the case.

We have bought bearings from OEM and they were junk. Where is "the app for that"? Where you can cross reference a OEM part number and get a high quality bearing that will last?

https://www.motionindustries.com/productCatalogSearch.jsp I use these folks, but I do ask where brgs are made if not made in USA don't want them, agree what is quality control, Scott.

Yep. I use Motion Industries a lot too. But you still have to proof them. I always request USA made bearings. They sent me some "PEER" brand bearings. The sales guy swore up & down that the PEER's were made in USA. When I got the shipment, and opened the box, the bearings had made in China stamped on the brgs & cups.

.....yah, he paid the freight to make things right.

prior to that I had just replaced a bunch of Peer "made in China" bearings on my Brent 540 gravity wagon. They were not holding up. They were replaced with Timken USA bearings. $500+ for 8 bearings......but not having a bearing fail under 550 bushels on the road during harvest.......

.......priceless!

10 years ago Peer bearings weren't actually too bad. They held up quite well for the price. About 4 or 5 years ago the price climbed up to almost what a Timken/Fafnir would be and then the quality of Peer went in the crapper.

Just search the number on google and type the brand you want. If the JD # is AXxxxxxx, just type "Fafnir AXxxxxxx" in the search on google. Usually a site that sells bearings will pop up and give you a cross reference. That should work with AGCO, Case, JD, or New Holland and any of their Legacy brands. Try to get a Fafnir/Timken. Those disk opener bearings might be good enough if they're from Taiwan, but not China. I would try hard to find Fafnir/Timken for the combine. Nearly all OEM bearings are China now. Makes you wonder how good a new combine is...

I will try the google cross reference trick. Is fafiner reliable? We used to always look for their name but in the mid 2000's they went through a bad quality streak with us. They were not out lasting oem (which were made in China and pretty poor)

I can't find any China bearings on our Lexion. Most are SKF from Germany and a few from Japan IIRC.

You can likely call the aftermarket source, tell them how you feel about the bearings, and how they are looser than your used assembly. They will likely take them back for you no problem.

That may be, and we don't see too many on our Gleaner, but take a look at a red or green one.

Bearing guy I deal with says the Chinese are capable of making good bearings, but those aren't the cheap ones. I get bearings from him and he has not steered me wrong. Amazing to me the inventory he has, I give him a Shoup catalog and he has been lower priced nearly every time. Tiny little shop in Shawano WI but he ships anywhere.

Shawano Bearings, Dick is the guy with the most knowledge. 715-524-3847 You can tell him Tim Schultz gave you the number.

I dont buy any bearings that say China on them. Only buy them if it says made in Japan, Germany, or USA.

No point in putting in cheap bearings if you have to change them every year.

I don't want cheap I want as trouble free as possible-------------chineese bearing went out on my 2014 stainless Dane spread downtown chicago on a sat. night in a BAAADDD part of town. Wabash swore they didn't use bearings from china so thats where I will go now. Dane said they would replace all of the bearings but wouldn't do a thing about the axle I had to stub. It had plenty of grease it was mismachined and all the other 3 would of done the same thing. If it runs in the field on a tillage tool and is 3/4 cheaper yeah I might try some in a pinch but nothing else
