How many of you know that Versatile used to make combines? and pull type combines? Here are a few pics I took of one today that was at a farm auction yesterday.
It is a model 42 and has a Chysler slant 6 engine (not sure if they ran it for the sale). From the serial number tag, it appeared to be made in 1966.
Just checked the Ritchie Bros. web site and it sold for $100.

I owned / used a 42 pull type for several years None around here had an engine, all were PTO powered.
having augers for clean grain and return did not seem to be a problem.
A fellow near me owned a later Versatile self propelled combine. I do not remember the model number, but it was sized like a 6600 /7700 JD and had a Ford industrial V8 and hydro drive.

Jon, the last version of the old Versatile was a 4000, which was hydrostat. They only made them I think 2 years. We had lots and lots of the 420 in the area, which was the SP version of the 42. Had the Chrysler 318. No feeder chain, no return augers.

Thanks Sheep Herder, that jogs my memory, the number was 4000-5000 ?? . The engine in it was a Ford 361-391 type industrial engine.
I had forgotten about no feeder chain in the 42. Did they have a paddle feeder system like the Massey 750 ??

It was a bunch of little rotating drums. Not familiar with the massey system. All I know is everyone around here had to add the blower to the top of the feeder house to suck the dust away. We never had one, but uncles and cousins each had a few. My dad had Super 92 massey at the time, before moving up to 105 JD. Glad we missed out the Versatile combine
