Yes, the front is 11ft. We have some supports with big bearing on the end that will let us go out pretty far on the rear if we need to.

Use one on a pull type sprayer, stock chopper, any activities that are pto related and variable speeds to match conditions.

Does a 186 hydro's steering wheel turn as easy as any other 86 series tractor?

the one I have requires more effort to turn the steering wheel than any other 86 series steering wheel.

A hydro uses a charge pump to power steering, its different than a standard tractor that has a T/A (MCV pump) if ur charge pump is getting weak, or if ur neutral charge pressures are low, u will have sluggish steering, there are regulators and it is "adjustable"

Neighbor had one since new. Far as I know, his son still has it. Good hay and chore tractor. Don't think they would be the best for heavy draft work.

Always heard they were like a derated 986 for drawbar work. 85HP or so on the PTO. One of the red guys on here will know for sure.

Dad had the older model 1066 hydro. It was our main tractor back in the early 70's. Pulled 18ft seedrite and 22ft deep till. Where it really shone was on pull type combine and baler. match pto work. Never had any problem with hydro after kinks were worked out. It was the first one sold in western Canada. Biggest issue with it was hyd noise and heat in after market cab no air conditioner just water bath cab cooler.

We own one, a1981 model. As mentioned above, they work great for PTO work, they are slick on a round baler ( no clutching when tying bales) and they are a handy loader tractor ( again, no clutching).
Edit- dairies around here like them on TMR mixers.

We sold lots of those when I worked for Quinlan Equip in Antigo WI. from 1978-1982 Great tractors for any work where varied speed and / or pto work was needed. Lots of them went to potato growers. Seems like they all had at least one of them, dairy guys liked em too. Steering is no different than any other 86 series. It was a basic 986 with a hydro transmission. Quite a good and reliable machine. If you want it to do heavy tillage only, get something else, but in its element they were hard to beat. As with any hydro, keep the trans oil full, clean, and don't overheat it by using it where you need a bigger tractor. Also don't let a clutch rider drive it. That floor peddle looks like a clutch and acts like a clutch, but it's a hydraulic bypass valve and a clutch rider will heat his oil up resting a foot there for an extended time.

IH told us we sold more 186's than any other dealer by a wide margin in those years.
