My auger sheared some bolts in the middle of the tube and the upper part will not turn. The auger is a 10" 81' with a swing auger. What is the correct way to take it apart? Wilson

When mine blew up the first thing I did was remove the cleanout door at bottom and raise the auger slowly as high as it will go--most grain will drain out.
#2 lower down and block up the discharge end ( I used a tractor loader so I could lower/raise discharge end)
#3 remove swing auger and bottom boot/ bearing/hitch
#4 remove top discharge bearing
#5 slide out auger and take apart each section as it slides down/out.
#6 buy NEW endthrust bearings for both ends

be carefull-worn augers can be razor sharp.

+1 what grease gun said ,did ours (10 x61) last fall in the middle of harvest. We double nylock ours and make sure flighting is in time with next joining section. Have fun straightening bent flighting ,did tear down and set up in about 6 hours .

Funny you mention the timing. I have an auger I broke a weld on at the top section a few years ago. Shear bolt didn't break due to dad replacing it with a grade 8 bolt years ago when it was new because it kept shearing bolts. When I took it apart to fix it I found out the top section of flighting was 180 degrees off. Had fun straightening the flighting put it back together timed correctly and with the correct shear bolt and it works great. Patrick

Did a 13-81 last year. Drain the bottom. i put a small wagon under the top end. Unsolved the last section of tube. i had a loader attached to it. then back up till the next section of flighting comes and unbolt it. On ours, the first splice stripped the weld around the couple. great quality control. I used some old well pipe to push the last section out. then all un reverse to get it back together. one more thing, i lifted the tounge so the a
auger was about level

Would it hurt if a guy would drill shear bolt out to next larger size so it doesn't happen again? Our Feterl has shear bolts on the PTO shaft, If the westfield does I wouldn't be afraid to drill it out larger. I know it's radical and probably wrong but it sounds like a large job just to replace one bolt.
