IL
Does anyone know if swapping a complete front axle assembly from an 8640 into an 8630 is possible. Neighbor has a parts 8640 tractor and I have some major problems in my 8630 front axle. I know its different size axle shafts inside but was wondering about swapping complete assemblies and gear ratio.

Doesn't the 40 series axle use lube lines for the front pinion were the 30 series does not ? I would think the tech manuals for each tractor would give the diff ratio's for each tractor.

South Central Illinois

Yes, as stated, lube could be a problem.

Also on the 40 series there is a dif lock on the front axle, none on the 30 series.

The 8640/50 share gear ratios with 4840/50 and 4955/60 where the final drives are concerned. The 8630, 8440/50 and 4630/40/50 and 45/4755 and 45/4760 have similar components. Both the 8430 and 8630 have dedicated gear lube in front axle. All others common lube from rear end. Hope this helps.
